And of course that December was something, to say the least.
Jackie was just glad they had gotten Christmas card pictures done before the incident.
A couple days past Kit's stitches, the Kennedy's sent Jack the jet and on an early winter morning, about a week from Christmas, the family of four (now) headed to the airport.
Jack instructing the workers before hand to have Kit's Christmas presents loaded before they arrived.
Jackie held Kit in a blanket as they walked out to the plane on the snowy runway while Jack held Clipper's leash. She was definitely down for the count, but it was Christmas, "joyful". None of the members really wanted to go, but if Jack didn't show, Rose would be more than upset.
Of course, somehow the press found them, they waited for them, hiding in bushes. But, completely unphased, the family boarded and quickly where in route to Hyannis.
The week was hectic and stressful, Kit screamed for most nights and was clearly in great amounts of pain everyday. Jackie and Jack got to watch the little ones run around on the beach while their baby laid, not being able to move. As a last resort, kind of hoping for a Christmas miracle, the family called out Kit's nurse, Hattie, who was willing to come out to them so close to Christmas.
She had taken care of Kit's medical problems at home since she was 4, and she knew she had plenty more years of service to come.
Most of the day, her pain medicine would run, but when it didn't, Kit was asleep, or of course, in her mother's arms. They liked to sit on the patio, just looking out to the waves, both bundled up tight, but warmed by each other's love always, always.
On Christmas Eve, Jack wanted so badly to be apart of the traditions, so all day medicine ran through the new 7 year old's veins. And even though she slept in Jackie's arms the entire time, it was totally worth it for him.
But as Jackie sat beside Rose and Kit's Aunt Rosie on the beach with Clipper just chilling in the sand, she felt a little hand movement and shifted a little
"Well, well look who it is!" Rosemary brushed Kit's hair out of her face as her dog jumped up to see his owner's face for the first time in so long.
And of course when Kit saw the face of the women talking her arms stretched out to her aunt.
"Oh come here my girl" Slowly she picked her up from Jackie and walked up and down the beach talking to her softly.
"Auntie Rosie, do you love me?" Kit spoke up a little.
"What kinda question is that K? Of course babe, your my baby!" She rubbed her back as she winced.
"Are you in pain kiddo?" She asked, rubbing a little gentler.
"I always am Auntie Rosie, but it doesn't feel that bad right now. Sometimes you gotta choose when it hurts." Kit sighed as a tear came to Rosemary's eye.
"Yea kiddo, but everything's gonna be okay, I mean after all your bestest aunt is behind you" Back up where the chairs where, Jack "snuck" up on Jackie as she closed her eyes, probably the first time she had relaxed in the entire trip.
"She's so good with Kitty" Jack stated looking to Rosemary as she walked down the beach with his daughter, kinda startling Jackie as he talked.
"She's always been my favorite" Jackie whispered petting the dog at her feet, while Jack laughed a little bit.
"Yea me too"
But after awhile of walking, Rosemary came back up to the chairs and looked to her older brother.
"Hey Jack. I-I know this is a long shot, but" Rosemary began, getting nervous half way through.
"Yeah Rosie??" He nodded for her to go on, getting Jackie's attention.
"I- I wanna take K tonight. AND I know, she can be a little challenging, but, but I know you guys haven't slept and I feel like I can do it. I promise IF anything goes wrong I'll bring her back, I'll even bring her stuff over to my place. It's just right there." Rosemary spoke visably nervous, but determined, she wanted this night with her girl.
"Well.." Rosie immediately cut him off.
"Jack, I-I just wanna be here for her, she needs somebody else in her corner. I- there's just something about her that makes me like her more than ALL the others" She sped talked and waited for a response, catching her breath.
"I think that'll be great Rosie, we trust you fully" Jackie butt in, winking at Jack.
"OKAY, but that's disgusting. Yeah, we're just gonna." Quickly she sped off with Kit in her arms, towards the Kennedy's, to start gathering her "K" 's stuff.
