Dane's Point Of View

Rays of purple, pink, and orange crept through the cracks of the unclosed blinds and faintly hit my eyes making me wince in the slightest due to the fact that I had not been out in the sun and fresh air in a while. I stared up at the white ceiling with much intent as my hands rested on my lap until a little knock was heard.

- come in - I said with no enthusiasm because it was probably my doctor or one of the annoying nurses checking up on me making sure I wasn't dying or choking on the excessive medication that was given to me three times a day.

- you're finally awake but oh my, you look like you're about to pass out - a familiar voice said . I turned to look at the door and there was Jared with a tray in hand.

- what's that - I pointed to the silver tray that contained a bowl and a salad along with a bottle of water.

- it's your food. The nurse asked me to give it to you since I was coming in here anyways. Where do you want me to place it? -

- I don't care, I'm not hungry - I nonchalantly said as I pulled my bed sheets higher. I watched him place the tray by the window sill and pull a chair next to my bed.

- I would get in there with you but you don't look to good - he said with a light tone but I knew he was genuinely concerned.

- right back at you - I responded. He had black circles under his eyes, his hair was messily placed on one side, and he looked incredibly tired. We sat in silence for a while with Jared playing with the tips of his fingertips.

- where's your remote. I want to watch television - he asked so I gave him the remote control that layed untouched the whole time I was awake on top of my night stand or whatever this piece of random furniture was called. Jared channel surfed for what seemed like hours until he settled on watching the Animal Planet.

- why am I here? - I asked interrupting the silence that once sat comfortably in this room.

- yeah, like you don't remember. Stop playing amnesia and eat your food before the nurse comes in and yells at us or you more necessarily -

- Jared - I grabbed his wrist. - I really don't remember -

I watched his eyes stare at me in shock as he took deep breaths and rubbed the edge if the chair with his thumb.

- you overdosed... or shall I say almost - his words were crisp and clear making me come out of my half asleep - half awake state to fully awake.

- how come you're not in the hospital with me then. If I remember - I stopped and breathed in profoundly. - If I remember correctly, you were with me that day -

- I was but I stopped after one line. You on the other hand kept inhaling it like it was oxygen. One minute you were telling me you were tired so you wanted to go to sleep and the next Kim finds you unconscious in your bed with your head face down in your pillow with old and new blood running down your nose. End of story - he fake smiled.

- I can't believe I did that -

- believe it buddy because I was there every step of the way - he said.

- and Kim? Did she leave me... - I asked.

- no - he breathed out. - she was there every step of the way too. In fact, she went above and beyond in making sure you recovered from your little drug session. It was sad but cute to watch, you know. It was like watching a baby kitten try to lift a brick. Or prick in your case -
