Trigger warning: Firearms, knife, blood, police, gun shot, threats, hostage, ambulance
"POLICE, COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP," They yelled into the house, gun first as the men followed behind them and then Patton, quivering behind them all. "Do you know where they might be?"
"Um..no sorry,"
Rolling their eyes, the two split up, leaving Patton by himself. Making a terrible decision, Patton decided to search by himself, instead of going left or right, he decided to look upstairs.
The stairs creaked and grumbled as if a warning not to come closer. A step wobbled as soon as he stepped on it and the banister was basically full of wooden needles that could easily pierce his skin if he touched it for even a second. The rickety staircase groaned as he reached to the top step, it's lenient nature pulled him back slightly as Patton pursued forwards.
As he approached the closest door, he could hear someone whimpering from behind the door.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Flickering his head around, Patton faced the two officers. Their guns hung low and their heads were held high, "Find anything?" Patton asked, his knees trembling slightly as his eyes were glued to the gun.
"Move over," The second one said from behind the first one, barging past Patton and the first officer.
Holding his gun up to the door, slowly, he let the door creak open.
His breathing hitched as the hair on the back of his neck prickled his skin as they stood up on the tips of their seats. His eyes widened as his tight chest tried to breathe through the thick layer of tension inside the room.
Flicking his head back and forth towards the officers, they didn't lower their gun but instead heighted their guard. They'd forgotten about Patton's presence as their eyes went darker than before when they were speaking to Patton earlier. It was frightening to see how different they looked.
Then again, Patton didn't know these people.
"Um....excuse me...." Patton said tapping the men in front of him on the shoulder. Turning towards Patton, he still had their guns pointed at Janus and Demi, "Don't hurt the kid....I want him to be safe," He glared at Demi through the two.
"Patton?!" Janus yelped from Demi's grip. Demi had managed to get the boy in a headlock position, armed with a knife near his throat and presenting Janus as a flesh shield from the police.
Struggling, Janus twitched and tried to free himself. It was useless though. All it did was tire him out.
"What the hell do you want us to do then?" One of the offices cursed, growled at Patton without taking his eyes off of the two in front of them. "How do you expect us to do anything?"
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?" Patton yelled, his voice echoing throughout the house capturing everyone's attention. Grating his teeth together, everyone was on edge around Patton. Taking a deep breath, Patton spoke again, stepping forwards towards the officers, "I thought you were supposed to know how to difuse a situation, but all you know how to do is violence,"
Sighing loudly Patton held his head in his hands, inhaling a whiff of air before pushing past the officers and walking towards the two. Almost immediately the two lowered their guns, but still they hesitated when they took a side-eye glance at Janus and Demi.
Snatching the gun out of the police officers hand, the other cocked the gun and pointed it at Patton, "I'm not going to hurt you," Patton told him, completely serious as he stared at Demi, "But he might," Patton stated, pointing the gun at Demi.
Cocking the gun, Patton moved closer ever so slowly. Janus whimpered as he squirmed in Demi's strengthening grip, his arm strangling his throat as the knife drew closer.
Snapping his neck to the side, Janus yelped as he saw the cold blade againest his throat. His eyes couldn't even blink at the sight. To him he was already dead. There was no way out of this.
Getting a bit more closer, the hoarse voice coming from Demi growled and barked a few words, "Come any closer and I'll kill this little shit," The knife dug in slightly, letting blood pour out of Janus' skin. "Don't think I won't," He threatened, a disgusting smirk grew to the sides of his cheeks as his eyes twinkled at the sight of misery.
A manic cackled croaked through the room, Patton didn't want to move anymore.
A raven cawed from outside the house window as the sky turned grey and grumbled through the day. The light no longer poured in the room as everything came to a stop.
Whimpering behind a knife, Janus shuddered as his eyes darted around the room, landing momentarily on Patton. His eyes screamed but his mouth couldn't even make a noise anymore. His arms shook harshly as he kicked againest Demi's legs.
But Patton couldn't do anything.
"Drop your weapon and I'll let him go," Demi leered his smiled cracking through the edge of his mouth, it could probaly draw blood if it went even further.
The gun fell out of his hands as Patton raised his arms up to show he was unarmed.
"Good boy," Demi stroked Janus' hair creepily as he removed the knife from the teenagers neck and excruciatingly slowly lifted his arm from the boy's neck.
Gasping for breath, Janus freed himself, holding onto his throat he tried to scramble over to Patton but his legs trembled beneath him, rendering him useless to stand. Janus tripped over himself as he limped over to the three, his arms covered with goosebumps as his eyes wide and dry.
When he got back, Patton helped him up, and held the boy in his arms, helping him up onto his clattering knees. "Now...let me go," Demi snarled, baring his teeth at everyone in the room.
His craws gripped tightly onto the knife and his eyes staring intensely at everyone.
Bang!
A shot rang through everyone's ears. The ringing was back. Janus hid into Patton's arms as he shut his eyes, looking away from everywhere. He didn't want to see what happened, he didn't want to know.
He just wanted to go back home with Patton and Logan and Yvette.
He didn't want to be here.
Maybe he cried aloud. Maybe he didn't. The silence was deafening.
Cracking his eyes open, Patton took a look at the scene in front of him. Demi was dead, his body was lying on the floor in a growing pool of blood, one officer was shaking in his skin as he dropped his gun. Were they speaking? Their mouth moved as if they were having a conversation. The faint high-pitched ringing droned in his ears.
Holding his hands over his ears, Patton squinted, his head choking on the sound as it grew louder. It ached in his brain as his gaze darted around the room for an answer. Any answer to anything.
The officers approached the two. He couldn't even hear their footsteps. One placed a hand on Patton's shoulder as the other went on the phone for something. What were they doing?
Minutes went by like hours. A blue and red light flashed outside and the two officers began leading both Patton and Janus out of the house.
There was an ambulance waiting outside. Two new people began to fuss over the two. I think they were saying something? Why can't I hear what they are saying? Is this a joke?
Looking back and forth at the two, Janus looked panicked as he backed towards Patton faster than he should have.
Soon after, one of the paramedics showed Patton a screen with writting that said: "Hello, I am Amira Elliot, the two officers over there called us due to them taking action againest a crimminal that has damaged your ears for a bit. We would like to take you to this hospital to make sure your hearing with return and to bandage up the scar on the boy's neck. Would that be alright?"
After reading that, Patton looked up at the two and nodded.
