The ride to the hospital was still completely silence. The only 'noise' Patton could hear was his own heart. He knew he couldn't hear it but rather can feel it in his throat, throbbing as he held onto Janus like it was the last time he could do that.
When they got there, the bittersweet reminders of how often they went there before Logan was released. They must of spent half of the year just visiting him. They probaly knew the way by heart.
~~~
After they got examined it was determined that it'd only last a few hours and if they had any problems to come back immediately in case of any damage to hearing. All in all it was fine.
After they got home, it was difficult for a bit.
Immediately Janus sat on the sofa, loudly explaining what happened and his tone changing every few seconds. The neighbours probaly heard them and wanted to write a very stern note to the landlord.
Actively, Logan listened before soon leaving to tell Yvette.
Whilst that was happening, Patton sent an email to school for one day of leave and began to sort out the substitute for the lesson. Man those kids would want answers as soon as he came back. He would give them the answers but they would miss out on a lot of learning. Plus, he knew very well they'll probaly not listen to the substitute.
Janus just sat by Patton, looking over his shoulder to watch what he was doing since he couldn't hear the tv and no one knew how to turn on the subtitles.
Neither of them wanted to leave the other. What they had been through had day had been....terrifying for both of them. They didn't know what would happen with Janus or Demitri. They were both in the dark about everything.
For the hours before they got their hearing back, they just stayed together, completely silent as they played the snake game on google, taking turns every so often. It's even more boring when you have no background noise.
After a while, Yvette joined them and had a few go's but got frustrated after not being able to get more than 14 points so she just watched the other two play (with much jealousy). She honestly didn't know what to do, she couldn't exactly talk to them, so she did the thing she knew best, staying quiet and watching.
A few hours after Patton and Janus got back, Logan decided to make dinner for everyone. He assumed that everyone would be staying. And if they weren't, he'd make them stay for dinner, even without their consent. It was a Sunday so he made a roast dinner for everyone.
Soon after the dinner was finished, their ears popped with life and sounds began pounding againest their eardrums as if playing supercalifraglisticexpialidocious on them. (I don't recommend it, it was hell doing it on steel pans).
Groaning slightly, Patton rubbed the side of his head before getting up to join the others for dinner whereas Janus just went there immediately, just riding it out like he does with life. What happens happens.
Taking his seat, Patton began the conversation, "I forgot how loud people were in this apartment block," he muttered, looking up at the ceiling then back down to his food to eat a bit.
"They aren't too bothersome....usually," Logan replied, dishing out his own food, then eating it with the other three. "Your hearing is back?" Logan asked after swallowing some food.
"Yeah, just came back now," Patton told him, through his puffed out cheeks, "Janus?"
"Yeah?"
"Ah good," Logan told them.
When they finished eating and washing up the dishes, Janus and Logan went to bed because they have work in the morning, and Yvette and Patton just watched TV at a low volume. They didn't want to wake up those two, and noises were still overwhelming for Patton since it'd not been so long since his hearing came back.
Noticing a melancholy gaze in her eyes, Patton finally decided to confront her about it, "You alright kiddo?" Patton asked. In his mind, he should have done this ages ago. He was her dad and he needed to take care of her. She was only a child.
Dwelling over what she could say in her mind, a simple word is the conclusion she came to, "No....not really," She told him fiddling with her grated down nails that she'd chewed. "Ever since the accident....and the thing today....I've just been feeling a bit....."
"Sad?"
Burrowing her eyebrows, she wonked her head side to side, "I guess....but everyone has been fussing over you....it sounds silly. But I've missed the time we spend together. Just us three," She stated. It wasn't exactly what she wanted to say but it was the only way she could say it.
He didn't know what to say. Sighing as he gave a comforting smile, Patton brought her into a hug, "I'm sorry about everything that has happened....it's not your fault," stroking her messy hair, she wrapped her arms back around him, "I've missed it as well but...things change, things will always change,"
This struck a nerve in Yvette's mind. 'Why couldn't everything stay?' 'Why must everything change?' 'Why can't it just be us three again?'. It wasn't something she could accept to happen even though it was inevitable in life.
"But that's not a bad thing,"
Her ears twitched at the words as her pupils widened. "Things will happen wether anyone likes it or not, but sometimes those become the best things in your life," He told her, still patting her head slowly. "I remember a time when I couldn't.....accept that a man could love another man....but then I met Lo," He compared, it was a very vague comparison but it still worked, "And he's one of the best things in my life, well, after you of course,"
"Me?" She looked up with glassy eyes to Patton.
Smiling back, Patton nodded, "Of course, I've always wanted to be a dad," He told her, planting a kiss upon her forehead. "You're the best thing in my life,"
Giggling, she rubbed it off and sat back normally to watch a specific part of an episode of The Legend Of Korra. It was the pro bending tornament by the way. That part was honestly awesome, don't even try to convince me otherwise. It's a shame there isn't another season, would have loved to see another cause I bing watched the series.
When the episode ended, Yvette tackled Patton into a hug. Surprising him, Patton cautiously lowered his hand onto her shoulder, embracing her back. "I really needed that dad,"
"The episode or what I said?" Patton asked, chuckling lightly, "I wouldn't be offended if it was Korra though, Avatar was great and this is too," (fight me).
Things wouldn't be fixed all by this, it would probaly take a bit more time to set in before it really makes sense in her mind. But that's alright, it would all be alright and she knew this as a fact in her mind. Maybe it was a fact it was going to be alright, or maybe I'm trying to make this hurt more than it should. Maybe not.
After a few hours of binge watching Korra and her muscles (I would let her pick me up, we all need strong women to pick us up), Patton descided to make Yvette go to bed since she had school in the morning. However, Patton didn't, he was tempted to make Janus take a day off but he would probaly be expelled for another absent day.
Tucking Yvette in, Patton kissed her on the forehead before ruffling her hair making it messier than before. "Good night kiddo,"
"Good night dad," She yawned, rubbing the kiss off of her forehead.
