It was Friday, Christmas eve, the day before the Yule ball. We had just returned from the Christmas eve dinner so Hermione, Ginny and I decided to have a sleepover before the Yule ball and the night of. All this week Jeremy and I had hung out a couple times this week. We even painted together. Fred and I hadn't spoken at all. Every now and then we made eye contact but I would break it first. Whenever we had class together I would sit far away from him. Did I miss him? Yes , but he brought this on himself.
"I can't wait for tomorrow." said Hermione as she stared at her periwinkle colored dress.
"Me neither. Although I wish I had a nicer dress." added Ginny.
"Ginny your dress isn't horrible, I'll see what I can do about it tomorrow." I said.
"Yeah and plus the colors suit you well." agreed Hermione.
"You really think so?"
We nodded and she looked at the dress more fondly. It was 9 pm so we decided to go to sleep early so we could have a good rest and look amazing tomorrow. I was excited to go to the ball, but a part of me told me I wouldn't be able to stand looking at Fred with Angelina. Then again, I was going with Jeremy, he really seemed to put effort into talking with me at least once a day. As millions of thoughts rumbled in my head, I dosed off to sleep.
That night I dreamt of the Yule ball, but I wasn't with Jeremy, no. It was Fred, and he looked handsomer than I'd ever seen him. His tall self towered over me that I had to lift my head up completely to meet his beautiful brown eyes. There was no one there but me and him. A soft piano played as we danced and danced. I closed my eyes and rested my head on his chest. But suddenly, I couldn't feel him anymore. I opened my eyes and realized I was standing alone. He was never really there. It was a fraction of my imagination, my desire.
Through out the morning the girls and I spent our time outside by the lake. Jeremy had joined us for a while but then left since he had quidditch practice. Harry and Ron had also come down to the lake after they finished eating break feast.
"Blimey the whole schools' going crazy about tonight, especially the girls." said Ron.
"Of course, it's not every year we have a ball." responded Ginny.
"Hey Y/N, are you ever planning on talking to Fred?" asked Ron.
"Eventually, but I don't know when."
"You know he misses you right?" added Harry.
"Yeah? Well sounds like his problem."
I was getting annoyed with this topic and I hadn't realized how harsh I said that.
"Erm, sorry." I said.
We stayed out there for a while longer until we decided to head back inside. Harry, Ron, and Ginny went off to the common room while Hermione and I decided to go to the library. There was no one there so it was just Hermione, the librarian, and me.
"I know how you feel." said Hermione causing me to look up from my book.
"Come again?"
"You wanted Fred to ask you, I wanted Ron to ask me."
"Gingers." I said.
We made eye contact but couldn't take each other seriously so we burst out into laughter. We stopped reading and continued talking, letting time pass. The door to the library opened interrupting our conversation and we looked over to see who it was. It was Ginny.
"Come on you two, let's go get ready!" she said excitedly.
I looked at the clock and hadn't realized that it was five now. We'd been in the library for hours and didn't notice. We headed to the common room and once we arrived we saw Fred, George, and Lee sitting in the couches. I made brief eye contact with Fred but kept walking.
