Alexei's P.O.V
Zavier called me the next day again. He invited me to his restaurant's end of the year party. I had to disappoint him because Dominique got sick. Dominique was a happy go lucky child, but he became a handful whenever he got ill. He had a habit of crying, screaming, and throwing a tantrum whenever he was in pain. Bertha and Ocean had trouble handling him in times like these. I had to isolate him before the other kids got infected. I decided to work from home to control the situation. Dominique finally started feeling better on Monday. I decided to go to work on Tuesday. You can imagine my surprise when Chance told me that Mr. Biggs had contacted the headquarters to complain about how we had handled his request.
I had supervised the project myself. It involved forty million dollars, and I didn't want any mishaps. The group that had handled the request made sure to follow every guideline and stayed under budget. They had done a great job of fulfilling Mr. Biggs's wishes. That was why I couldn't understand what the C.E.O's problem was. I was fuming with anger, but I wasn't going to let it show. It wasn't my employee's fault that a small fry wanted to deceive us. The odd thing was that all the information about Mr. Biggs had checked out when Triton investigated him. He was an honest man and treated his employees well. I sighed while looking through the data that Mr. Biggs had sent us.
I couldn't find the flaws no matter how many times I did the calculations. Mr. Biggs had given us a week to correct our mistakes. He was also asking us to compensate him for our incompetence. I would have shut down the project if the construction hadn't started yet. Our construction company would suffer a loss if I pulled out now. It was already Friday, and Chance and I still hadn't spotted the mistakes that our company had supposedly made. I groaned in frustration when I saw that it was already two o'clock in the afternoon. Chance patted my back then uttered, "Let's have lunch to gain some energy, Alexei." I nodded, then went through the data once again.
Chance grabbed my desk phone, then called James. He asked him to buy two lunch sets from our favorite restaurant for us. James walked into my office after about thirty minutes carrying our food and drinks. I joined Chance at the conference table. I had lunch while going through the files that James had left on my desk that morning. James got startled when Chance suddenly yelled, "I have a brilliant idea, Alexei! Let's ask Zach to help us. We're getting nowhere like this. He'll surely know what to do." I sighed then said, "I don't want to burden him with something that he's not assigned to do, Chance. Have you forgotten that Zachariel works in the marketing department?"
Chance looked in James's direction, then answered me with, "Of course, I remember in which department Zach works, Alexei. I was the one who appointed him there. I only suggested this because I know that he's an expert in this field. We went through the data countless times, but we didn't find anything. We are already exhausted. I doubt that we will succeed like this. Zach is our only hope for now." I finished my meal, then said to James, "Go bring Mr. Joseph to my office, James. And call the Biggs Company to make an appointment for Saturday. I have faith in Zachariel. He will surely discover what's wrong with the data by tomorrow morning."
James nodded, then uttered before walking out of my office, "As you wish, sir." Chance and I cleared the table, then freshened up a bit. We took a seat after that, then started going through the data again. James walked into my office with Zachariel after a while. It seemed like Zachariel had forgotten to wear his suit jacket in a hurry. His toned body instantly caught my attention. Even Chance couldn't help but gaze at him. Zachariel didn't notice that I had been staring at him. He intently listened to Chance while he explained to him why we had summoned him. Zachariel instantly understood what our request was.
I quickly pushed my laptop towards Zachariel when he asked if he could examine the data. Chance brought a chair for Zachariel to make sure that he was comfortable going through the troublesome data. It seemed like Zachariel hadn't realized that he was sitting only a few centimeters away from me. I couldn't take my eyes off the gorgeous man. Zachariel was too preoccupied to notice that I was examining his features. Chance intentionally let a pen fall to get my attention. I frowned when I saw him smirk at me. He had noticed that I was intrigued by Zachariel. I shook my head at Chance, then concentrated on Zachariel again. I smiled when Zachariel asked me if I had a free pen drive for him.
