Alexei's P.O.V

I called Triton the moment I got off the phone with my father. Triton immediately put his men to work. I notified my father about the latest developments, then walked out of my office. I didn't want to hear anything about Gabrielle and her child anymore. So I asked my father not to call me again. I had planned to apologize to Zachariel, but he was already asleep. I took a long relaxing shower, then went to bed. Zachariel didn't get alarmed when I pulled him closer to my chest. I groaned when I heard a knock on our bedroom door. I was a light sleeper, so I woke up immediately. I quickly got out of bed to check what Charlotte wanted.

Charlotte peeked into the bedroom to see if Zachariel was awake. She sighed in relief, then uttered, "I'm sorry to disturb you so late, sir. I didn't want to wake you up, but this seems urgent." I nodded, then asked Charlotte, "What happened, Charlotte?" Charlotte handed me a report, then said, "Triton called the house just now, sir. He asked me to give this to you. Triton also said that his men couldn't find any trace of Mr. Eric Cambell and his family, sir. He would like you to contact him as soon as possible." I sighed while reading the message. It seemed like Briac had lost his mind. He was urging Triton to find the child while the man didn't even work for him. Triton had cut him off from the investigation. I handed the letter back to Charlotte, then stated, "Throw it away, Charlotte. And bring me a cup of coffee. It seems like I won't be getting any sleep tonight."

I placed a kiss on Zachariel's cheek, then went to my office. Triton instantly picked up his phone when I called him. He lamented, then uttered, "I'm sorry for dragging you into this, Mr. Marquis." I suppressed a yawn, then replied to Triton with, "It's alright, Triton. Briac should have stayed away from the child. Knowing Gabrielle, she will do everything in her power to make Briac's life miserable." Triton chuckled, then responded to me with, "See, that's the thing, sir. Gabrielle said that she didn't know that her uncle was moving to another state with his family. She has been paying her uncle six thousand dollars a month to take care of the child. Gabrielle admitted that she hadn't seen the child in two months due to her busy schedule."

I sighed, then uttered, "I'm glad that I don't have a bond with her, Triton. I started resenting her the moment I found out that she wasn't carrying my child. I wasted a lot of money on her and my so-called child. So what do you need from me?" Triton took a deep breath, then answered me with, "I need your help in explaining to your brother why my men can't work on this case anymore, sir. Eric Cambell knows what he is doing. He pays for everything in cash. That is why we couldn't track him down. His wife and kids have been careful too. I have a feeling that they had been planning to disappear with the child for a while now. Gabrielle failed to see that her uncle and his family were too attached to the child. It's fashion week in Paris, and I'm in a bind. Most of my men are out of the country with my clients. So I can't finish the job right now. My men could take action if someone tracked them down for us, though."

Charlotte walked into my office the moment Triton uttered those words. She placed a cup of coffee on my desk, then stated, "Mr. Madden just called, sir. He said that Briac is in terrible shape. Briac is afraid that no one will ever find the little boy. He doesn't want his child to go through the things that Zach did." I groaned while pondering about Briac. I thought that he would have a backbone. I sighed when I heard Triton say, "It seems like we can't leave things as they are, sir." I rubbed my face in frustration, then responded to Triton with, "I know who can help us find Eric Cambell and his family, Triton. Prepare yourself for a virtual meeting. I'll be right back." I looked at Charlotte, then said, "We will need another cup of coffee, Charlotte." Charlotte smiled, then declared, "I'll bring some snack with it, sir."

I gently stroked Zachariel's head when I returned to the room. I felt guilty for waking up Zachariel, but the sooner we handled the matter, the better. Zachariel hummed when I placed a kiss on his temple. He slowly opened his eyes, then asked me, "Is it morning already, Alexei?" I smiled at Zachariel, then answered him with, "No, Zachariel. I woke you up because Triton needs your help." Zachariel rubbed his eyes, then asked me, "He failed to find the boy, didn't he, Alexei?" I nodded, then responded to Zachariel with, "Briac fears the worst. You are the only one who can track the family down now, Zachariel. Triton will give you all the details in a virtual meeting." Zachariel stumbled out of bed, then walked into the bathroom.
