Zachariel's P.O.V
Our business was growing, and I had once again won an award. It was the fourth time in a row that I had won an award for the best advertisement in the business. I was born with an exceptional and busy mind. I had learned how to do business when I was just eight years old. The director of the institution where I grew up in refused to buy me the textbooks that were, required for school. I had learned early on in life that you don't achieve anything by moping around or crying.
There lived a lot of senior citizens in our area. They always needed help with shopping or walking their dogs. I approached the elderly and asked them if I could assist them. I earned the money that I needed for my textbooks within three days. I instantly became the community's well-known gofer. Everyone looked for me if they needed something done. I even helped other kids with the money that I earned by doing odd jobs. I learned a lot of valuable things from the business magazines that one of my elderly clients paid me read aloud to him. The elderly needed someone to listen to their problems, and I was always there to lend an ear.
I became their plumber, their grandson, their assistant, and even their nurse. I didn't mind spending my afternoons with my clients. I was getting paid generously for it, and that was all that mattered to me. The people who raised me in the institution were Christians, so they named me, Zachariel Joseph. People preferred calling me Zach instead of Zachariel. I didn't mind it because it wasn't a name that was given to me by my birth parents.
I was, informed that someone had abandoned me when I was a baby. It seemed like my mother had placed me on the doorstep of an orphanage because she couldn't take care of me. The director of the orphanage saw a woman fleeing the scene after he found me. The police never discovered who the woman was, and I didn't put too much thought into it either. To me, abandoning a child meant that you didn't want them. And I didn't want someone like her in my life.
I stayed under the radar throughout middle school. The director of the institution forgot that I existed. Things changed when I started high school. I fell in love with Andrew Waltz the moment I saw him walking through the school's doors. It was cliché, but I had my reasons. Andrew had stopped a boy from bullying my deaf roommate. I admired him for standing up for my friend. I never even knew that I was gay. I guess I fell in love with a person and not gender. Andrew looked uncomfortable with all the attention that he was getting because of his wealthy parents. I decided to approach him when I saw that he needed a friend.
Andrew ignored me when I tried to introduce myself to him. I wasn't going to give up, so chased after him. Andrew slowly warmed up to me. He even sought me out when I skipped school to work. Andrew had a lot of restrictions due to his family's background, but that didn't stop him from hanging out with me. Andrew rejected me the first time I asked him out. It took me a year and a lot of work to convince him that I was dating material.
Andrew's parents tried to put him through conversion therapy when they found out that he was gay. I had already saved up a lot of money by that time. I was ready to do anything for the one that I loved. Andrew and I had been together for three years before we left town. It was right after our graduation that we moved to L.A. We rented a small apartment with the money that I had saved up.
Living in Los Angeles was expensive. We could barely make ends meet, but we were happy together. I had to work twenty-four-seven, it seemed, to keep a roof over our heads. I was lucky to receive a scholarship from UCLA, but Andrew had to pay for his education. I wanted to keep my life-partner happy. So I discarded my happiness and concentrated on Andrew. I started working as a waiter at a restaurant in L.A. while attending university. My boss was horrible, but the pay was good. I studied during breaks and managed to graduate with honors.
