Chapter 52. What if.....? Part 1

Zachariel's P.O.V 

Alexei and I decided to explain to the kids what Madeline's job entailed after she left the room. We wanted to prevent misunderstandings. The kids listened intently to us. The children promised to treat Madeline as their teacher instead of as their nanny. Alexei and I were satisfied with the outcome of our discussion. We played with the kids after that, then got ready for work. We had a peaceful breakfast together with the children. Alexei summoned Madeline to his office after breakfast was over. He placed a contract in front of her, then said, "I didn't expect you to bother the children at seven A.M when I permitted you to use whatever method you wished to educate the kids, Madeline. You created a misunderstanding between my other half and me on the first day of your job. I have added a few more conditions to your contract to make sure that this doesn't happen again. You can resign if you disagree with the conditions."

Madeline grabbed a pen after reading the contract. She signed the document, then said, "It was never my intention to hurt you, Mr. Joseph. I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me." I frowned, then said to Madeline, "We can't change what already happened, Madeline. If you stick to the rules, we shouldn't have any problems." Madeline nodded, then walked out of the room. I sighed while leaning back in my chair. Alexei kissed me softly, then said, "You seem tense, Zachariel. Take the day off to unwind. You have been busy with the kids, work, and your new project. It's about time that you put yourself first."

I groaned, then responded to Alexei with, "I would love to stay at home, Alexei, but I can't. I have to go through applications to find people who are suited to work at my company. The Arrakasta company is already in good hands. I want to hire someone who can run the Rodzina company in my stead." Alexei chuckled, then asked me, "Rodzina means family in Polish, right?" I cupped Alexei's face, then kissed him intensely. I gazed into Alexei's eyes, then stated, "I didn't expect you to know the meaning of the word, Alexei." Alexei smirked, then asked me, "What do you take me for, Zachariel? I own businesses around the world. It's expected of me to know different languages." I smiled at Alexei, then stated, "I can see why your grandmother wanted you to take over her empire, Alexei. You would make a gorgeous surgeon, but you are better suited to be a business tycoon."

Alexei laughed, then said, "I thought that I would hate this life, Zachariel, but I was wrong. I enjoy doing business and making my companies thrive." I patted Alexei's cheek, then stated, "I'll enjoy competing against you, Alexei." Alexei kissed me softly, then stated, "It would be a pleasure doing business with you, Zachariel." Alexei left after saying goodbye to the kids. I visited my plot to check on the construction quality, then went to the headquarters. I was using one of Alexei's vacant buildings as my temporary office. The building was fortunately already equipped. I had already hired a personal assistant. He handled stuff while I was at work.

I drove to my office after work. My assistant, Derrick Boltman, handed me a stack of files as soon as I stepped into my office. I pointed out the people who I wanted to interview first, then left. The kids were napping on the indoor patio when I arrived home. Charlotte smiled, then said, "The children had a rough day at school, Zach. They had trouble concentrating. Madeline had to invent games to keep them engaged." I chuckled, then responded to Charlotte with, "They will soon get used to the routine, Charlotte." Charlotte nodded, then uttered, "Yeah, they are smart kids. They are eager to learn new things." I went upstairs to wash up. Madeline was in the kitchen when I returned. She was having a cup of coffee. She smiled at me, then uttered, "Welcome back, sir."

I grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge, then responded to Madeline with, "Thank you, Madeline." Madeline finished her coffee, then said, "I was surprised by how much the kids already know, sir. Genevieve told me that you were responsible for it." I chuckled, then stated, "The kids were born with high I.Q's, Madeline. I didn't do much." Madeline grabbed her cup, then stood up. She walked over to me, then said, "I have never met someone like you before, Mr. Joseph. You are intelligent, intriguing, gorgeous, and caring. I thought that you were confident in your relationship with the kids, but it seems like I was wrong. I have a feeling that you are afraid of me taking over your place. The kids have never felt a mother's love before, right. I normally stay away from my pupils after my teaching sessions are over, but Mr. Marquis's children are just too adorable. I won't be able to leave them alone even if I want to. I wonder how you will feel if the children start calling me mommy suddenly."
