Jeremy's POV
Stonewall High is farther in the shithole then it was before. The name "Ellie Jones" is taboo around here. People whisper when she walks down the hall and look away.
Welcome to my world Dani.
Everytime I looked at my desk, I was overfilled with the desire to pick up my walkie and call her, so naturally I shoved it in a drawer.
I wanted to be with her, but I couldn't continue to pine after a girl who was never going to love me back.
Which brings me to today. It's been a month since I ended whatever I had with Dani; I've spent my time without Dani learning to crochet (courtesy of my mother) and researching summer medical training programs.
And now, I'm off to the school prime minister speeches with Charlie.
"So Four-Eyes, where's your girlfriend?" he asks, slinging an arm around my shoulder.
I shrug. "I don't know, we haven't talked in a while.""What about? Talk to Dr. C."
We walk up the bleacher steps, and take a seat beside some girls who glare at me. Charlie waves to them.
"Dr. C?"
"Sure. I have a PhD in love affairs." He grins at me. I roll my eyes in response.
"I needed some space, and she agreed." I tell him. "It was too intense, I just needed a break.""Was she a clinger?" he asks.
I shake my head. "No. It wasn't like that…."
Suddenly, the background buzz of the student body tones down. I watch as Dani walks in the room completely alone, and dressed in a rather large sweater with her hair up. She's also got on a pair of thick rimmed glasses. Whispers arise, and she sits in the very front row of the bleachers. The noise continues after she's settled. Odd."What the hell just happened?" I ask Charlie. "I mean I know she's talk of the school, but typically she's not rebuffed liked that. People crave to be around Danielle Jones." I say.
"You haven't heard?" Charlie asks in disbelief.
"I tend not to pay attention to the rumor mill."
"Well, she and that football guy….." He's interuppted by Principal Dickens, who looks sweaty and is out of breath.
"Attentions students!" He pants, a girl at the front hands him a bottle of water.
"What's up with him?" I ask Charlie.
"He was chasing around some stupid freshman in the caf."
"Oh."
He finishes drinking. "We will be conducting our school parliment speeches today, our first candidate is Abigail Wense." I look at the front of the room, and see Abby standing in the back corner of the gym. She walks up to the front dressed confidently, and I see Dani give her a thumbs up from the front row.
Abby stands in front of the microphone, right on the school crest.
"So I guess it's always good to start these things off with a joke, but I don't really have any good ones. So, let me tell you about me. I was born and raised in Toronto, I am a native to this amazing city. I play hockey like a true Canadian..." The boys hockey team chants and Abby smiles. "I enjoy church, camping and television. I'm very diverse." A few people snicker.
"I want to make it known to all of you that it was an honour to be nominated to run in this campaign, so thank you. I feel like I should address some school issues while I'm up here, and how I intend to fix them if I'm elected."
Okay, I like the sound of this.
"As Stonewall High students, we are expected to give nothing but our best. But what I've noticed is that we don't give that to each other, instead we as a student body talk behind each other's backs, spread rumors and get involved in the personal lives of others. Don't pretend it doesn't happen, everyone in here has done it at least once in their life, myself included." I hear a gasp from almost everyone.
