Mel's POV

"Psst Mel!" This again? I groan (internally) and turn to look at Kelsey.

"What's up?" I whisper, worried of the teacher giving us trouble.

"You wanna hang out today? I haven't seen you since the halloween party, I miss you." Kelsey says. I'm taken aback.

Could I really go without Eileen again?

"Don't bring your friend though, just Jason. He made the football team right?"

"Yeah he did."

"Great, I'll see you in the parking lot after school." says Kelsey, I turn back around in my seat.

Kelsey taps my shoulder again. "Do you think maybe you could be less of a..tight ass? Like don't shoot everything down and ruin it for everyone. Not saying you've done it before, but sometimes you're a bit uptight. I just want the other's to think you're someone that is willing to take risks"

Wow, okay.

"Yeah, sure sorry if you got that impression." I respond dryly.

I can take risks, I'm not a tight ass..Oh God is that what people think? I can't be only the cop's kid. I'm cool, I have to be. This is my chance to be cool at least. I can take risks.

Can you risk Eileen?

Shut up.

Walking down the hall, I can't stop contemplating meeting Kelsey and her friends after school. I mean she's helping me become popular, something I've never been, but not with Eileen.

My thoughts are interrupted by an abrupt kiss on my cheek, and Jason's smile.

"Hey babe, how's it going?" My cheeks turn red at the word "babe"

"I'm good." I reply, "Kelsey invited us to hang out with her and her friends after school."

"Oh yeah, she's dating Todd."

"Your buddy from football?" I ask, Jason nodds.

I reach for Jason's hand as we prepare to head for the parking lot together.

"Todd's really excited to hang out with us." He says, holding the door open for us to leave the school. I smile as a response

"Didn't we make plans with Eileen today?" He asks, I shake my head to dismiss it.

"Yeah, but she's probably got her honours program prep or something today." I lie, she doesn't. Jason raises an eyebrow.

Before Jason can respond, I spot Kelsey in the parking lot. "Hey!" I greet her excitedly, Todd walks up to Jason. I see other kids with Kelsey, sitting on the hood of someone's car, smoking and talking to each other.

"What's up?" She says.

"Not much." I reply, hands in the pockets of my jeans. Todd is talking to Jason

"Want a smoke?" He asks, Jason shakes his head. "I'm good man."

Talking to Kelsey and her friends was actually pretty fun, despite being offered drugs, I had a pretty good time.
