Mel's POV
"Hey blondie! Psst!" I'm sitting in math class, trying to do my work.
"Yeah." I say absentmindedly, turning around and leaning on the desk of the girl behind me. She's a brunette in tight blue jeans and a skimpy tank top. She's also one of the most popular girls in the ninth grade.
"Yeah what's up Kelsey, you need help again?" I ask. she sighs.
"Are you done the work?" She asks, I nod.
"Wow, you're really good at math." I shrug. "This stuff is so hard." She runs her fingers through her hair, across her scalp.
"I don't know how you get it."
"I don't know...I just do." I tell her honestly.
"So before we start the work, I've decided to thank you for all the help you've been giving me in math and invite you to my halloween party, you're boyfriend's invited too." She says. What? Really?
"Can I bring a plus one?"
"That little friend of yours?"
"Do you mean Eileen?" I ask.
"Yeah, she's not invited. I want cool people there." She says. Wait, I'm cool? Since when?
"Okay help me out with this question." She looks down, scratching down her guess at the answer.
"Are you sure I can't bring her?"
"Positive, don't test me."
"Uh, alright." I read the question she's stuck on.

Jason's POV
Mel really makes it hard for me to focus sometimes. Here I am at my very first football practice, and I see a cute blonde girl with her hair in her face sitting on the stone wall doing her homework.
So you know what I did? Run into the senior football captain, Will Hanson.
"Watch it Freshman!" He yelled, knocking me over. I remained on the ground until he walked away.
"You okay man?" I look up through the guard on my helmet at Todd, his hand is stuck out for me. I take it.
"Thanks." I brush the grass of my pants, and we jog over to the team huddle.
"Alright pansies listen up!" Coach Carr yells, looking at all of us. There's at least fifty guys here.
"Stonewall has a history of football glory, if we lose the first game of the season, there's going to be hell to pay. Do you understand me?!"
"Yes coach!" The seniors chant, I guess we should do that too?
"Who's going to win tomorrow?!"
"We are!" They yell again, in deep bellowed voices. I should probably yell too?
"Who's going to kick ass tommorrow?!"
"We are!" I yell along with them, Will eyes me.
"We are Stonewall!" They all chant, a couple of the guys walk off the field for water with the coach when I'm suddenly pulled backwards by my jersey. I look over at where Mel's sitting, and she's watching me. I wouldn't want her to come down here, but I don't want her to worry.
I look behind me and Will Hansen's grinning, four other football players are standing behind him with their arms folded. I gulp.
"Look here boys, we got some fresh meat." Will laughs, the others join in. They sound like cannibals. Will adjusts his grip to the front of my jersey, so he's dragging me up to look at him. I suddenly feel very small.
