- Ocean -
The two of us fly home. My body wobbles in the air, my wings flapping unsynchronized most of the time, despite all the practice I've put into improving my flying.
"You really are a terrible flier," she says.
"I know."
We fly for only a moment longer when I say, "we're here."
We land beside the glistening lake. The pile of dead leaves crunching beneath our paws. Home sweet home.
Esemais walks towards the nearest mud hut, obviously assuming it is my home. Not wanting her to walk into a stranger's house, I call out to her, saying, "I don't live in a mud hut."
She turns back towards me. "You're... homeless?"
"No," I say, spreading my wings wide, "this is my home."
"So... you're basically homeless. Is that why you don't have to ask your mom for use to hang out? Because you don't even have a mom?"
"I have a mom, she just lives down there," I answer her, pointing with my right wing towards Ekal Lake. "Like I said, she hates me."
"I don't know why your mom abandoned you here, but no mother could hate their own kitten."
"She didn't abandon me. She checks up on me here and there."
"And how often is that?" her voice starts to sound demanding, or even scared.
"Once a week, maybe?"
"Ocean, whether you admit it or not, you're homeless. Your mother checks up on you once a week?! That's not how mothers should act! If you're living like this, you need to go to an orphanage, you need help!"
