Three weeks later...
The air flutters through my fur, feeling both cool and relaxing. I close my eyes and enjoy the moment. Today is the day, I think, I will get my magic.
Below me, in The City Around The Lake, each mud hut looks like an ant, while the lake glistens and shimmers in the sunlight.
I twirl into a swirling dive, the wind rushing past me. I fling my wings open and stop my plummet. I land gently in front of a potionist cat, a cat smaller than a cat dragon, but larger than a domestic cat.
His long white fur an unfamiliar color around here; all the white cats live in the snow biome farther north. He sits on a cushion before a small stand, covered in dozens of labeled ceramic bottles.
His wingless back looks so empty, I notice.
"That was some beautiful flying young lady," he purrs.
"Thank you," I say with a smile.
"Are you here to buy one of my famous potions?" he asks, giving me a hopeful plead with his bright blue eyes.
I give him a nod. I remove my leather satchel from my shoulder and take out all the allowance I've saved up over the weeks. "Is this enough to buy one of your potions?"
"Depends on which one you want to buy."
"I would like one that will give me magic."
The cat slides forward one of his small clay bottles, "that will be three nuts," he says.
I leave three of the spherical seeds and put the rest in my bag. "Thank you," I reply.
