- Brittney-

I'm fed up with being magicless. There must be some way to get magic. Some potion, of sorts, maybe?

"Brittney! Are you doing your homework?" my mother calls, peaking her head through the underbrush at me, where I sit in my little hideout in the Endless Forest.

"Yeah, Mom, I'm trying to practice my magic. You're not helping."

She smiles and retreats back to the town.

- Emerald -

I watch my brother as he waves a wing and smashes a wave of water into the dark cat dragon, knocking it off my mother. I watch as he runs to her, and sits beside her, crying as he clutches her as she slips into death. I watch her meow her last words, but the sounds don't reach my deaf ears. I read her lips instead. "Ocean... I'm... sorry... I... mated that... horrible man... for... you... I thought... that... if... you could... have another... parent... that... it would... help... you... I... love... you... Ocean... Take care... of-" she slumps with death.

I can see the possibilities, see what she would have said if she had time. "Take care of my eggs, give them a better life than I gave you."

I close my eyes, flashes of the future appear in my mind. That girl Brittney, gets in trouble, come on girl, you're better off without magic. Don't worry Brittney, you'll learn your place eventually.
