- Ocean -
The black cats hiss, they stock closer, and they drool as they lust for the taste of our blood.
"Ocean, get behind me," Mom says, her voice sounding quivery, scared, and despite all that, completely determined.
"Mom?" I ask, feeling completely frightened. My thoughts keep switching from one thing to the next, changing from fear to worry, to incoherent emotion, to an almost irresistible urge to flee.
"These cats were the ones who killed him," my mother replies quietly. I can see the sorrow in her eyes, as they reflect memories of the past.
I look at the black cats, then to Mom, then to them again. "Who? Who did they kill?"
"Your father." With that, she charges the cats, screaming. I see her crazy side again, just like I saw it when I asked her about my father so long ago. Except, this time, she directs that anger at the beasts, and not at me, her own son.
She kills one of them, snapping it's neck with her teeth. She stands tall, turning towards the other one. Blood covers her copper fur, turning it bright red. The last black cat attacks her. It pins her to the ground, and slashes her neck. It looks at me, and gives me a grin.
Red hot anger flares inside me. I feel the water of the lake, as it laps all lazy at the shore. I call upon it, drawing its energy, its power. A large bubble of the water, about the size of a mud hut, rises up into the air. It hovers over my mother and her captor. The water plummets.
