- Brittney -

I don't want to go to school. Every day, every week, they always find something about me to make fun of... I just wish - Mom interrupts my train of thought.

"Brittney! Wake up! It's time for you to get ready for school!" Mom shouts from my doorway.

Groggily, I sit up, blinking to let my eyes get used to the faint morning light.

I quickly start to groom my yellowy orange fur.

I try to listen to Mrs. Kiwi give me her daily lecture. Maybe today might be the day that what she says actually helps... "You must concentrate. Think of being invisible. Imagine you are where you are right now, but no one can see you, or your shadow."

"I'm trying, Mrs. Kiwi!" I hiss.

The teacher sighs. Her nice, sweet, helpful teacher mask vanishes, replaced with the disproving, mean, strict teacher. "No, you're not. You are scrunching up your face and pretending you're trying."

I look down at my paws, blushing; my embarrassment showing clearly. I can feel the gaze's of my classmates. All of them. Laughing at me, their throaty snickers makes me cringe.

"You will get mocked far less if you actually try," my teacher says harshly, ending her words with a chuckle.

But I was trying. I tried as hard as I could to turn invisible. Why can't they just see that? I'm magicless. No matter how hard I try, I will never be able to use it.

The words from my prophecy come floating up to the surface of my mind:

Three with disabilities; three with abilities. They will live with untold lies; they will live with hidden truth.

"Three with abilities?" as if... that prophecy is just a bunch of lies.
