I watch with interest as Brittney slowly comes around. She sits up rather quickly, and I can see through her eyes as her vision goes black. She lays back down slowly, with the help of Abby, the tortoiseshell doctor. She blinks, her eyes slowly coming into focus.

I shake my head, my sight returning to the room I'm in. "Ocean," I say, turning to my brother pacing beside me in our orphanage bedroom.

He turns to me, "You can see her, right? Brittney? Is she okay?"

I nod, "she has awoken, and will make a speedy recovery. When you are allowed to visit her again, I would like to come with you. I desire to meet her. For now, we need to go to the front room. Come."

He gives me a confused look, "Why do we need to go to the front room?"

"Because. You will see." I turn to my other siblings, who sit in their beds, Coral scowling as she does homework, and Seaweed quietly reading his book. "When I said 'we need to go to the front room', I was referring to we, as in, me, Ocean, and you guys, too."

"And, why, little kitten, should I obey you?" asks Coral.

I give her my best glare. "Because," I say, "if you obey me, it will benefit you."

"Oh? How so?"

"Trust me."

My step sister snorts.

"Coral," says Ocean, "listen to her. She knows what she's talking about."

Coral sighs, "and if," she says, "if I obey her, what do I gain?"

"What could it hurt to obey me? Your pride?"

"Fine. I'll go to the front room, but only because you won't stop begging me," my sister snaps.

"Thank you," I say with a grin.
