As soon as wee exit The Orphanage, my mother drops me. "Please don't make me carry you the whole way," she says.
I roll my eyes at her. "If I was to try to run again," I reply, "where would I run to? I can't go back to The Orphanage, the care taker there already knows I'm not an orphan."
"Look," Mom sighs, "while you were gone, I laid Carp's eggs and I need someone to watch them. You know I work and don't have time."
"So that's why you wanted to find me? Because you want me to watch your eggs? You want to be able to raise some more wholesome kittens than I am? Why can't Carp watch them? They're his eggs."
"Ocean, I know you don't believe it, but I do love you."
I scoff at that sentence, "well, you sure don't show it. You didn't even answer my questions."
"Carp... well, he has... no interest in watching eggs."
"Then he shouldn't have let you have his."
