- Ocean -
I can't believe it! I can't believe it! I think, I'm going to get adopted and get a new mom! I... hope she's nothing like Carp... She seems nice... but that might just be a front...
I pace impatiently for Ti and my future mom to finish up the paperwork for our adoption.
"They are also discussing the risks of adopting us," says Emerald, "Ti is telling her about how whenever someone annoys you in any way you will often attack them."
"Hey, they deserve it," I reply.
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean you should attack them."
I give her a huge scowl.
She responds with a roll of her eyes.
Silence, waiting. Endless waiting. It feels agonizing, excruciating.
Is she going to stick to adopting us? Or is she going to say no because of the risks?
Finally, the door opens, and she emerges, grinning as she waves our adoption papers in excitement.
"Woohoo!" she cries. She runs towards us and erupts us into a huge squeezing hug. Beaming, she guides us out the door.
"Ti told me that you guys are mer cat dragons."
I nod in reply, not daring to say anything. Even though Emerald gazes at our new mother with trust, I can't help but feel a little suspicious of her. What if she ends up just like Carp?
"That's pretty streange. Mer cat dragons usually live in the lake, but I see why you live on land," she turns to me, "you don't have gills, so you and your siblings live on land.
"She told me about your family situation, with a neglecting mother and an abusive father. She told me about your mother's death by a dark cat dragon attack, and your father's mysterious unknown whereabouts."
She continues talking the whole way to her house.
It sits close to the water's edge, small and humble, covered in a leafy roof. It's beautiful, I think, this, this is my home. My new home.
