- Ocean -
Carp waits for me at my make shift home. He glares at me, guarding three tan eggs. Mom's eggs.
My step father walks right up to my face. He fluffs up his fur, he growls, and he racks a claw across my face.
I turn my gaze down at my paws. "Sorry, Carp, I... I won't run away again," I try to keep the lies out of my voice. I'm not sorry, Carp, and I will try to run away again, just so I can spite you.
"Don't call me 'Carp'. I'm your father. Call me by that."
"Yes, Father," I say.
"That's better," he answers.
"Carp," scolds Mom, "leave him alone. He's stressed, please just leave him alone."
My step father rolls his eyes, but he slinks back into the lake.
My mother sighs. "I just wish I knew how to be a good parent." She walks a few steps away from me, only to freeze.
Her ears go back, her fur fluffs up, and her eyes become full of terror.
Two black cat dragons stand a ways away, but even from here, I can still smell their stinky breath and hear their crazed laughter.
"Ocean, get behind me," she says.
