I won't say that he's right about not telling me that we're meeting Orochimaru. But I won't say he's wrong either. Meeting Orochimaru makes me feel uneasy. I'm not entirely sure how to feel about seeking help from a man who is ultimately worse than Sasuke. Orochimaru's a persona non grata in Kumogakure. His actions led to the last rampage of Gyūki in my village. He infiltrated Kumogakure to extract Gyūki's left horn and caused the events that led to Uncle Blue B's death. How do I feel alright with that?
I bite my lip and heave a big sigh, trying to shake off my wayward thoughts, breathing in the strong scent of earth and cut grass wafting in the late afternoon breeze as we traverse a dark avenue of pine trees.
It won't do me any good to think about Orochimaru's sins against my family right now. I should put my feelings aside and play the part Sasuke and I agreed on after we landed in Otogakure.
I have to assume the role of Sayumi and stick to the story we made up that justifies why I'm traveling with Sasuke now. I'm a woman who is searching for her father and Sasuke is searching for the same man since he's the one who can give him answers about what he witnessed in Sobojo village.
"We're here," Sasuke calls out to me, breaking me out of my thoughts. I don't have to look but I feel him beside me about a meter away. Despite the fact, we haven't argued after that incident inside his Susanoo, the threshold hasn't changed at all.
"So this is the hideout?" I readjust the straps of my concealed nagamaki and try to take in the strange sight before me. The stone hideout is underground -- hidden in the forest -- with a mouth of a snake as an entrance. A faint yellow glow emanates from the inside of the snake's open mouth.
"One of the hideouts," Sasuke corrects me. He walks toward a middle-aged short-haired man wearing an olive green sleeveless jacket, navy blue long-sleeved shirt, and pants. "Come on."
I follow suit and notice some Konoha ninjas wearing the same outfit emerge from behind me.
"Sasuke." The man with the happuri-style forehead protector nods his head in acknowledgment of Sasuke. And he does the same. "What is your purpose in visiting Orochimaru again?"
