"Don't you have some steak or some cottage pie, at least?" Uta whines at the dining table and pouts as he swirls the chicken soup in his bowl. "This tastes weird."
The boy shouldn't be whining at the dinner table. Staying in this cabin is so much better than living in a hut outdoors. But I guess he's at his breaking point after living off coconuts for days since we got stuck on this island.
"You'll eat that soup and like it." Rin sternly tells Uta who grumbles. Sasuke and I watch the curious exchange between the two from the opposite side of the dining table. "Eat. Don't you know how many people starve every night and sleep without a hot meal in their stomachs?"
"No, I don't know how many." Uta shakes his head and puts down his spoon. "Why should it matter? If I eat this flavorless soup will those starving people feel full?"
Say what you will about Uta, but the boy is pretty bright to notice a flaw in Rin's argument. I couldn't help but chuckle a bit at what he said. That didn't go well with Rin though because she caught me. And now, she is shaking her head at me in disapproval after noticing that I barely touched my soup.
"Do I have to lecture you to not waste food, too?" She snaps at me.
"Of course not," I give her an apologetic grin. Inside, I feel uneasy. That horrifying memory of that decapitated chicken jumping at me repeats on a loop inside my head. And now, a piece of its breast is floating in my bowl. Ugh. But she's right. I just have to grin and bear it. It would be bad manners not to finish it. If only I were in the Raikage's mansion right now, I could pick my meals. I can opt not to eat anything at all and then they'd make something else for me to eat. Hmph.
