It was almost dusk when Naga and I finished sprucing up the cave. We cleared our sleeping areas from branches and rocks. Placing the palm leaves on the ground, we made makeshift mats and put Naga's improvised pillows on top of it.
Beside me, Naga is looking at the darkening sky above us, lying on his mat; while I'm sitting on mine, dusting off the dirt from my fringe bag and looking for my hand sanitizer.
The mat isn't so bad after all. The leaves actually have a cooling effect on the skin. Of course, it's nothing like the standard inflatable mattress and pillow set that Kumo ninjas are given during missions. But in a pinch, it will do.
"What's all this?" I hear Sasuke's deep voice from behind us. He's standing beside the opening of the cave holding a bouquet of small white clustered blooms.
"Mister Bunny!" Naga pulls himself up and stands up to greet Sasuke by rushing up to him and hugging on his leg.
I carefully stand up from my mat to approach him as well.
Sasuke flinches. Clearly uncomfortable with the affection Naga is giving him. But he's not pushing the boy off either. He's just frozen there on the spot. Unreceptive and stoic as ever.
"Welcome back." I manage to give him a tight smile. I am still playing a part after all. I have to seem receptive to him. Even though, I'd rather not deal with this degenerate at all.
"Miss Kaiya said if we have to sleep here then we have to clean it up. So we got rid of the cobwebs and cleared the floor. She even got us makeshift mats to sleep in and also cut extra leaves we can use as plates." Naga puffs out his chest proudly. "We did a good job, didn't we?"
Sasuke slowly nods his head and gently pulls the boy off of him.
"Get some rest so you can get better." He tells the boy who smiles at him and proceeds to lie on his mat.
