Pressure point - a term for whatever a person values and cares for deeply that can be used to manipulate them.

Occam's razor - a problem-solving principle that gives precedence to simplicity: of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred.

"He never told you, did he?" Orochimaru smirks as he leans back on the cushioned backrest. His lips creepily curl up as he casually lifts his cup and takes a sip as he observes me. Orochimaru's amber eyes carefully take me in. "Considering the circumstances, I guess it's understandable. Your mother was a less than ideal candidate for the wife of the heir of the Raikage clan at the time. Being a thief and all."

Thief? Did he just call my mom a thief?

I stare at him with wide eyes, unsure what to make of his words. But one thing is certain. This man is trying to get a reaction out of me and manipulate me by tugging at an obvious pressure point. My mom. But what angle is he trying to play here by telling me this lie?

"I crossed paths with your mother many years ago before she met your father. She was a kindred spirit." Orochimaru nods his head slowly and confirms, "She had a curiosity about the world, unlike most people I've met. She was a helpful friend and ally until she cut ties with me and married your father."

Biting my lip, I sigh deeply. I look away from Orochimaru and drum my fingers on the surface of the smooth wooden table that separates us in an attempt to rein in my temper. It won't do me well to go off on this dangerous man. Still, I can't believe this man is trying to sully my mom's name with lies in order to manipulate me.
