Last night, I let Sasuke's question linger in the air. I didn't know how to answer it. I can't deny that I have a bond with Sasuke. I like him. But despite knowing the truth of what happened to him, at the end of the day, we are who we are. Nothing can change that.
For how long can I stay by his side considering the reality of our situation? What happens after we break the Soulbound enchantment? What if we fail and remain bound together until the end of time? What does it mean for me when I go back home?
Hmph. It's a hopeless situation -- no matter how you look at it.
That night, Uta groggily walked out of the worker's quarters without his shoes. He squinted his eyes and rubbed his cheeks as he yelled for us. Because of him, I didn't have to answer Sasuke's question. Even if I slept beside Uta and turned my back away from Sasuke, his question kept me up at night. Sleep barely found me even if I closed my eyes and willed myself to dream. And when I woke up, he was gone and so was Uta.
During breakfast, Rin put out newly grilled fish and leftover chicken soup for me and told me that Sho took Sasuke and Uta with him to do some last-minute errands before the boat arrives. With a stern look, she said there was some water waiting for me for bathing.
"Here." Rin's voice breaks me out of my thoughts, and she enters the small bathroom. Lying in the wooden bathtub, I wince at the sudden intrusion. Even though my naked body is mostly submerged in soapy, cold water, I can't help but feel vulnerable in her presence. What kind of person just walks in while someone is bathing?
Rin must have noticed my awkwardness because, right now, she stands beside the wooden stool near the tub and rolls her eyes at me. She waves her right hand as if to brush the issue off. In her left hand, she's holding a salmon-colored dress and a small wicker bag. "It's nothing I haven't seen, young lady. Stop being prissy. I brought you something."
