• Boutique ship - A small and intimate vessel, usually carrying between 50 to 200 passengers. It usually has an all-inclusive fare with a good passenger-to-staff ratio, luxury amenities, spacious rooms, and sumptuous cuisine.
• Compartmentalize (a.k.a compartmentalization) - a defense mechanism in which people mentally separate conflicting thoughts, emotions, or experiences to avoid the discomfort of contradiction to their principles, beliefs, and experiences.
• Sexless (used in the context of this chapter) - not having any interest in sex or not having sexual attraction or desire towards any person.

• Ryūjin - the dragon king of the sea, sea god, and master of serpents in Japanese mythology. With his magic jewels, he is responsible for the tides, he brings storms, and he represents both the perils and the bounty of the sea. He is also said to have the ability to appear in dreams.
• Bridge - the main control center of a vessel/ship, from where the captain and officers are able to man the entire operations of the vessel. It is generally located in a position with an unrestricted view and immediate access to the essential areas of the ship.
