A/N: Wow. my second update in a few hours. I love you guys.
Walt's POV
The first thing I felt was shock. Then came the happiness. This quickly changed into anger. She knew all this time. Nat knew about this whole thing and she never said anything. Why?
"When did you move to Shallow Lake?" I asked. She blinked at me; taken aback by my sudden mood change.
"Um... I've been here since I was 7"
"And you decided never to say anything to me?" I was so angry at her right now. To make things worse, the bell rang signaling the end of class. I jumped which caused Nathalie to smirk. "What do you have next?"
"Homeroom. You?"
"Crap. I have double Study Hall,” I sulked.
"If it helps, I also have Study Hall third period. Maybe we can talk then?" She tried. That's seemed fair enough.
"Fine. I'll be in the library," and I walked up to Cali who had been watching our conversation from the door intently. From the corner of my eye I saw, Nat and Liz walking together. They were friends? I really needed to get my stuff sorted.
"So Cali, what do you have next?" I started.
"Why were you talking to her?" Crap. The question I didn't want to answer.
"I asked her about the answers. And if she'd help me go over the material for today. I was asleep in class... And that's not the answer to my question," I lied smoothly.
"Since when do you care about your grades? And it's only the first day back!" She argued
"Dad made me promise to do better this year. I'll try for the first week at least to seem interested," I shrugged
"Makes sense. I have PE next. Laters baby," Tell me she didn’t just say that… God, where did she pick that up from?
"Don't call me that," I grimaced. She shrugged. The bell for class rang and I raced to the library. I didn't know much about Nathalie anymore. I mean, she other than the basics, I had no idea what her life had been like! I couldn't randomly go up to Liz and as her, and I didn't know any of her other friends. And for the second time today, my mind clicked: The interface! It would- Okay back up. The school here issues everyone a type of account that had all our records: statistics, behavior, attendance, etc. The catch was that anybody could see it. You could view your own profile and you could see other profiles. And for your display picture you could get it changed but they usually took your yearbook picture. I could look up Nathalie there! By this time I had reached the computers in the library. Pulling out an empty chair, I opened the interface and looked up Nathalie. It gave me lots of results. Another thing about the interface: it had all the records, even from the time it was introduced. So I ended up with about a hundred results for ‘Nathalie’. Crap. So then I looked up 'Nathalie Taylor'. One result: Bingo. I clicked it open.
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. This girl was a freaking genius! "Head of math-elites: lead the team to their victory in her freshman year; first prize in State Science Fair in freshman year; head of the academics department in sophomore year; assistant set designer and screenplay writer in sophomore year; Debate Club in sophomore year; Highest GPA and IQ in freshman year and sophomore year." Whoa. That's some mean stuff! She has enough credits to last her a lifetime! I continued surfing through her profile, clicking on the links. Each link lead me to a newspaper or magazine article. Honestly, where was I when all this was happening? Her profile seemed to go on forever! Finally, I reached the last section: behavior. She had a squeaky clean record! No infractions, nothing! Even her attendance was perfect. The perfect student! I needed personal information. So I opened up Facebook and looked her up. Not much to find there. She rarely posted anything and had a few pictures with Liz and some other girls I didn't recognize.
