"So for homework read the last chapter and we will discuss on next week. Also don't forget Tuesday will be our last class so make sure to get in any assignments you did not turn in by then. Enjoy your weekend." My teacher says after the last bell rings.
I sighed as I raised myself from my seat. This would be our last weekend before summer started. Which meant that it was our last weekend as high school seniors. Although, I couldn't wait to graduate, it was also a bittersweet feeling.
As I walked to my locker I thought about the past few weeks since the carnival. Things at home were a lot less tense but my mom and I barely have spoken.
You see, after that night my mom decided to take a week off work claiming we never spent any time together anymore and wanted to spend more time as a family- which was great. However, what I didn't know was that my father would be present for all of it.
For the first two days it was fine- definitely awkward but fine nonetheless. We watched movies, had family game night, and a shit ton of awkward dinners but if mom was happy and comfortable then I had no reason to complain. It was all fine and dandy until the third day of us hanging out and my mother then sprung on me that she wanted to invite over my father's wife and the twins since and I quote "they were family too."
*flashback*
I turn my eyes from the screen of my laptop and to my mother's brown ones. "What?" She says after I look at her for a few minutes."Are you joking?" I say in confusion. She couldn't be serious. There was just no way that my mother would want to sit down with my father's mistress. Had she gone insane from being around him?
"They are family now and your father has been staying over here a lot lately. I think it would be nice to not have him miss dinner with his wife anymore, don't ya think?" She says shrugging as if this is a sane idea.
I scoff and push my glasses up from falling while turning back to my laptop. "I am not having dinner with you, dad, and his mistress. Invite the twins since they're actually family but tell her stay home."
This time it was her turn to scoff. "Yeah because telling your father 'you and the kids can come but leave your wife at home' would go over really well. It's just one dinner and I think it would be nice." She says and I turn back to look at her.
"Are you feeling ill and this is just delirium?" She rolls her eyes and shakes her head while walking away.
"I think you're being dramatic." I furrow my brow.
I was being dramatic?
She's the one who is suggesting having a dinner with the same woman my dad cheated on her wife and I was being dramatic. Of course, I had slightly forgiven my father for his past deeds but I'm still angry and since I can't be angry with my father due to my mothers request- I could damn sure still be angry at his mistress.
She was just as much as fault for the destruction in my home.
I got up from my spot on the couch and followed her to the kitchen. "You are literally asking me to sit down and pretend to be a big happy family with the very woman who tore ours apart so if that makes me dramatic then so be it. Why don't you just tell dad to stay home and not come over here everyday instead? Doesn't that seem like a better option."
"I could do that but what happens if we have other family nights? Her kids are always over here when you babysit and now her husband is spending late nights here. Are we just never going to invite her to family things?"
"Yes, EXACTLY." I say throwing my hands in the air.
"No Sky, that's not fair. Maybe you could take this chance to talk to her at dinner too."
