The next day at school Kayla wasn't present.
I was half expecting her to walk in pretending nothing ever happened and back to her usual bitchy self but no.
The other half of me was also expecting to be called down to the principals office and be suspended but no that didn't happen either.
By the end of the week everyone in the school had stopped talking about it and was focused on whatever other drama was circulating but yet Kayla was still absent.
I started to feel bad so on saturday morning I found myself doing one thing I never thought I would be doing again. I was knocking on her front door to make sure she was okay.
After 3 knocks I finally heard her mother's soft voice from the inside.
"Who is it?"
"Hi Mrs.Woodberrie, it's Skyler." I say nervously.
I use to come over here every other day. Her mom had grown to like me and vise verse but when the whole situation happened I never set foot over here again. I wasn't sure what Kayla told her mother but I was scared to find out.
The door slowly opens and I'm greeted with a warm smile and the smell of freshly baked cookies.
"Oh sweetheart, I haven't seen you in ages. Come on in." She says and I walk into the purple and white painted house.
"I just came to check on Kayla. I noticed she had t been to school all week." I say.
"She's in her room. She came home all roughed up and when I asked her about it she just ran to her room. I called the school and they said she wouldn't tell anyone what happened. I asked her if she was being bullied and she just cried and hasn't left her room since. You don't happen to know what happen do you?" I shake my head and stop myself from scoffing.
It's obvious Kayla didn't tell her mother we weren't friends anymore and the reason behind it but I also refused to be the one to tell this sweet lady her daughter was a back stabbing bitch who bullied others rather then got bullied.
"Oh well okay. You can go into her room if you want. I'll bring you guys cookies in a few." She days with a sad smile before retreating into the kitchen.
When I get to the front of her bedroom door I knock on it. "Come in mom." Says a soft voice from inside the room.
Walking in I see Kayla's face pale as she notices who it is. "Hi." I say closing the door behind me.
"I- um Sky what are you doing here?" She stammers and sits up on her bed.
Her eye was still a bit blue but it looked like it was healing, her nose also looked like the swelling was almost gone and her ankle looked decent.
"You haven't been to school all week and I wasn't suspended. I wanted to see how you were doing." I shrug and sit on her computer chair.
"Why would you be suspended?"
"Because I did that to your face." I deadpanned. She looked at her hands and was silent for a few.
"Well I deserved it. I didn't know about your adoptive brother. You've never spoke of him and when Carter told me he just said you had a brother that was it. I am so sorry."
"He's just my brother there's no need to put the adoptive part infront of it."
"I'm sorry." She repeats.
"So who told you and I'm guessing you know the full story by the way you keep apologizing."
"They sent me home early that day but while I was in the bathroom these two girls told me about what happened or at least the gist of it. I swear I wouldn't have said anything if I knew what happened. You don't talk about-"
