*Emily's POV*

We sat on the front row of the bleachers and Matt just stared at the grass. I let him have a minute. Then 5 minutes went by. "Matt?" I asked. He looked up as though snapped out of a trance. "Right" he said clearing his throat. "So as you know, I kissed you yesterday." I looked down at the ground and blushed. "And I'm still trying to process your reaction to it." He said this while picking up my chin so our eyes met. I didn't want to tell Matt the truth, because honestly I didn't want to hurt him. But her deserved nothing less than the truth. So I gave it to him. "I just don't want to be your rebound." I said in a hushed tone. He looked at me with a face like he had just seen a ghost. "Emily?" He asked. "Yes?" I responded. "I just want you to know, out of everything in the world you could be to me, it is not my rebound." This made me feel 10 times better about the situation. "You see, I hadn't thought about that at all. Like what you meant to me. But now that I do, I'm pretty sure I know. There is no medicine that can help me get over my heart break from Amanda. But if there was, I'm pretty sure it would be you, Emily. You are the only one that could possibly help me cope with all of this. And if not as a girlfriend, then as a best friend." As these words wrapped around my brain, I let them sit there for a minute. Then I realised something, out of everyone, Matt was the person who helped me cope with moving here. We were each other's escape from society. As I got deeper into my own thoughts I heard Matt speak up "Emily? What are you thinking?" What was I thinking, I was thinking that I was falling hard for him, but obviously I wasn't going to say that. "I'm thinking that you should be a poet Matthew" we both laughed. We started to walk back to the school. As we were walking Matt said, "Do you want to walk home with me today?" I gave him a sceptical look. "For real this time, I promise" he said this while making the cutest puppy dog face. "Sure" I laughed. Then the first period bell rang.
