•Chapter 5•

*Emily's POV*

I woke up surprisingly happy today. I looked over at my phone and realized Matt texted me. It said "goodnight💤" I smiled my stomach simultaneously felt butterflies. I haven't felt like this since forever and I don't know why I'm feeling like this now. I threw my phone on my bed and got up to get ready for the dreaded school day. I put on my uniform, a black skirt and a white short sleeve shirt, black and white vans with knee high black sox, and a messy bun. I got my backpack and my schedule and started walking to the bus stop. I heard the bus turn the corner. There were a lot of kids on the bus. I started to get overwhelmed so I put my headphones in and pressed play. As I walked into the crowded bus of unfamiliar faces, my I pod shuffled to Not About Angels by Birdy. It was my favorite song. I looked around for an empty seat but there were none to be found. Then I heard someone yell, "aye new girl!" I took out my earbuds and spun around. I saw a boy waving and motioning for me to sit down next to him. At first I was kind of scared because he wasn't unattractive and he looked like one of those popular kids, but then I walked over and sat down. I said thank you and he replied with, "No problem. My name is James by the way." He stuck his hand out for me to shake it. I took his hand and shook it as best as I could while smiling. "Hi, my name is Emily," I responded. He smiled. I noticed that he had the cutest dimple on his cheek. We arrived at my new school. I walked out of the blaring bus and started walking to the big blue front doors. I heard someone yell, "Emily!" I turned around to see James jogging over to me. "Want me to show you around?" Since I had no idea where any of my classes were, I took the offer. He grabbed my hand and started walking to the front door. I was not expecting him to touch me so I flinched a little but then reluctantly followed. I heard someone scream, "LOOK OU-" Then I was on the ground in an instant. I was livid. I looked up to see Matt next to me on the grass grabbing his head that I assume he banged up. He shook it off and got back onto his feet.
"Hey I'm really sorry, I just wasn't-Wait, Emily? Why does this keep happening?" he laughed. I got up and was about to say, hey Matt, or make small talk but I was cut off by James grabbing my hand and yelling, "Watch it Espinosa." then he pulled me away. I looked back but Matt was gone. I caught up with James who was dragging me by now. Then he led me to a group of boys with Varsity jackets and girls with cheerleading uniforms. It's like every stereotypical high school movie out there. He then announced to everyone, "Hey guys, this is Emily, she's new."
