Lucinda's POV:
The same coin sat in my palm when I woke up.
I held onto it tightly as if I was going to lose it if I let go of it. It was a coin, but I felt like I'd need to use it in the future. I haven't seen Father or Amanda in a while, which made me worried and start to sweat. He could be dead by now, and I wouldn't know until it was too late. "Hey, buddy?" I heard Doggy ask. I turned away from my lap to look towards him. "Yes?" I asked in response. "Do you...want to talk about what happened to Rose and Sophia?" He asked. I turned to the coin in my hand.
"Should I tell Doggy what happened to Rose and Mother?"
I gave the coin a flip.
"No."
I sighed and turned to Doggy. "It...still hurts to talk about, even if it's been almost two hours," I replied. "I hope you don't mind.." Doggy chuckled and gave me a smile. "I understand, you can tell me when you're ready!" He said. I knew that It would be a long time before I was ready to tall about it. They were my sister and mother, after all. I could only hope that Doggy didn't mind waiting long as I looked back down at my lap.
I stroked Luna's hair, similar to how Mother would do to me; Gentle, soft, filled with love. Mother was right. I do know what to do, but would I be able to do it? I just turned 12 a month ago, and now my family is falling apart. And there was nothing I could do about it. I looked up at Doggy, who seemed just as upset as I was. I tilted my head at him. Then I realized. I realized what he had been hoping for. Something that would never become a reality. And all because she died.
"Should I confirm my suspicions with Doggy?"
Flip.
"Yes."
I sighed before turning to Doggy once more. "You...you wanted to tie the knot with her, didn't you?" I asked. Doggy turned to me. "You wanted to marry her, right?" I asked. Doggy nodded after a bit. "Hm..I figured," I said before turning back to my lap, "You loved her just as much as I did." There was only so much we could do for our loved ones. I wonder what Rose would say about all of this. She'd want me to keep going. She'd want me to stay alive.
And I'd do anything for her.
But I can't do everything.
I can't predict the future. I can't run fast or jump high like others can. Only being 12 doesn't help either. I can only do so much before my body tires out. And who knows how much there is out there that'll make me tired. It was quiet for a few minutes before Father came back with the gas can, much to my relief. He put the gas into Doggy's car before they both climbed in. Father and Doggy were having their own conversation while I sort of zoned out.
I decided to play some more games on my phone. Luckily, I still had 96% battery. "You two are lucky that I showed up on my day off," Doggy said smugly. I looked up from my phone when I heard Father scoff. "And you're lucky I brought gas, Doggy," he replied in a sassy tone. Doggy chuckled and shook his head before turning back to the road. "Touché, boss," he said before things went quiet again. It was like that for a while before Doggy spoke.
"Man, we seriously need to find out what's going on." Father nodded. "I know," he said, "Cindy and I have started to see people going berserk all over the place. Two of them killed Rose and Sophie." I looked back down when Father mentioned Mother and Rose. "We need to find out what caused this for their sake. You haven't lost your past detective skills, have you?" Doggy asked Father. I remembered that both my parents were once detectives, too. They wore the same trench I was wearing.
Father shook his head. "I know it's been 6 years, but I hope not...I think I could use them better now than ever before," he said, "I can't imagine how all this must feel for Cindy." I immediately looked down when he mentioned me. "Losing both her older sister and her mother in one night. No one should have to go through that," Father added. I pulled my knees to my chest and rested my head on them while thinking about my late mother and sister.
