Lucinda's POV:
I knew that I would've made an amazing marathon runner.
I dodged another attack from Elly before running away from her and Granny. I was looking for a purple key that I could use to unlock the purple vault in the storage room, but I ended up finding Elly and Granny instead. Earlier, I realized that Granny was slower than Elly. I assumed it was because she was older. I was thankful for it because it allowed me to focus more on Elly, who was faster due to being younger.
I wasn't sure how long I had been running for, but I wasn't getting tired anytime soon. I ran through the alley, knocking over bags and cans of trash. Zizzy was nowhere to be found and Pony only watched with a guilty look as I ran past him. Before the infection, he and I were good friends. He even taught me a thing or two about optometry. However, now that the infection hit Lucella where it hurt the most, he's changed. He's been very secretive and distant towards me, and I wasn't sure why.
I knew that I had found another person like Luciana; secretive and distant, yet warm and caring at the same time. Or perhaps that was what Pony wanted me to think. Though he was my friend, I had my suspicions about him. He asked about my family out of the blue, which was already a red flag to me. Then again, they were going to find out eventually. The time just came sooner than I expected. Perhaps I was just overthinking it.
From the moment Bunny told me that the infection was in me, I realized that although it gave me a sharp headache that just wouldn't go away, it also enhanced my speed, strength, and agility. I remembered the note I found back in the metro about patient zero restoring strength, but showing signs of aggression. I would notice my blood veins on my hands and face. I knew that the infection was in my blood, but I never understood what it was up to in there.
I wondered how long my antibodies would be able to keep the infection at bay.
Since I was younger, I knew that my antibodies were stronger. However, I couldn't help but feel as though there was more to the story that I had yet to figure out. I just couldn't seem to get a break from all these mysteries. Maybe Rose would've handled this better than me if she was still alive. She was Lucella's best detective, after all. All I could do was keep the notes I found around the place and plan to take a better look at them when I had the chance.
For now, all I could do was run.
____________
"Well, at least it was on my bad arm..."
My grip on my bloody shoulder tightened as Zizzy kicked Elly and Granny to the ground. My breath was heavy and shaky as my fingers gripped the rug underneath me or my shoulder tightly. I threw my rucksack onto the ground directly infront of me before scrambling to get out my first aid kit. I took out my towels and my roll of bandages before partially taking off my trench and my button up. Feeling the cold air hit my arms and shoulders caused goosebumps to form.
Zizzy bent down to my height as I wrapped the bandage roll around my shoulders. "Are you okay?!" She asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice. I put my wrap of bandages back in my rucksack before tightening the ones on my arm. I then buttoned up my shirt and put Rose's trench back over my shoulders before finally responding to Zizzy's question. "I'm fine," I replied in a calm tone, "It wasn't my good arm." I let out a heavy sigh after I spoke.
I stood up while keeping my grip on my shoulder, more gentle this time. Earlier, I shoved the second batch of grass I found into Zizzy's hands as I was getting chased by Elly and Granny into the hotel. The second after I lightly pushed Granny away, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. Elly had tried to stab through it, but I moved away in time to avoid that from happening. However, the cut that she left behind was deep. That was when I fell to the ground as Zizzy came in.
