Lucinda's POV:
"Woah! Look at all these cool paintings!"
I held Rose's hand tightly as we walked through the gallery. Mom was following behind us. Dad had some work to do, so he stayed behind at the station. It was a bit scary being away from Mom, but I was seven now. I was going to be brave. "This gallery is built pretty weird," I told Rose, "What's with the spiral staircase?" Rose looked up before responding. "I don't know, Cindy," she replied. There was no railing. Someone could easily fall and break something.
Or die.
Mom walked up next to us. "It is a bit dangerous, isn't it?" she asked. Rose and I nodded as we glanced up at the staircase. Rose tried to change the subject. "Did you see those eggs down there?" She asked. Mom nodded. "They were beautiful, weren't they?" She asked as we nodded. Mom picked me up with one arm and wrapped another around my sister's shoulder. "Not as beautiful as my two daughters, though," she added while chuckling. Suddenly, Rose snapped her fingers.
"Oh! Before I forget, Mom and I have a surprise for you, little sis!" Rose said happily as she turned to Mom. "Really?" I asked with a smile. "Oh, yes! I think you'll really like it, dear," Mom replied. "What is it?" I asked as Mom put me down. Mom and Rose looked at each other before turning back to me. "Why don't we go back to the car first?" Mom asked. Rose picked me up and put me on her back before going out the gallery door with Mom following behind us.
After we were outside, my curiosity had skyrocketed. "Can you tell me now? Pleeeeease?" I begged. "Alright! Alright! We'll tell you!" Rose said while laughing.
Mom shook her head before speaking. "So, the two of us have been talking with your father about this, and we think you'll be up for the challenge," she explained. "We've taught you how to shoot guns and how to defend yourself in a fight since you were five, so this shouldn't be a problem for you," Rose added.
What she said next made my eyes widen.
"Cindy, we're going to start teaching you how to fight with swords."
____________
The clashing of metal was heard throughout the backyard.
It had been about 3 years since Rose told me that I was going to learn how to fight with swords. The first few months were spent learning how to swing it properly. After that, I was swinging a wooden sword around. I was fighting against a motionless dummy for a good while, courtesy of Mom and Dad. Finally, I got a real sword. It was shiny. Very shiny. I could see my reflection from the blade. After that, I had continued to slice a motionless dummy.
Now I was fighting against my older sister in the backyard.
"Don't lose focus, Lucy," Rose said as I cringed at her use of my unused nickname. "I'm not moving anytime soon, Lia!" I replied, smirking when I saw her shocked expression. I was keeping up with her moves! I managed to dodge every stunt Rose tried to pull. I knew that she was going easy on me, but I tried my best nonetheless. We stopped once Dad yelled out that his timer had stopped.
"Not bad, sis," Rose chuckled as she put her sword away. I did the same. "I'll beat you someday," I promised. My sister chuckled and shook her head. "We'll see, Cindy, we'll see," she replied. I kept going. "One day I'll beat you, and then I'll be unstoppable!" I said with my hands on my hips, "I'm not gonna be a damsel in distress!" Rose and Dad chuckled at my actions while Mom, who was standing behind them, chuckled and shook her head while smiling at me.
