⚠️TW!! Blood and gore!!⚠️

Lucinda's POV:
"Why do I have to do all this?"

I groaned in slight annoyance as I swiped the red keycard I had in my hand over the panel that had a similar glow in red, causing the door beside it to open. On the other side were two flights of stairs leading to the second floor. "Well, that gets us closer to the roof, I suppose," I said. I looked up at the stairs. I sighed as I turned around and made my back down the hallway I came from. Bunny was waiting by the door we had just come out of.

I went into one of the rooms, where an orange keycard sat on a bench. I tilted my head in confusion. I shrugged my shoulders and picked the orange keycard up before putting the red one down. I left the room and walked around the hospital for a while. "Where could I use this...?" I muttered to myself as I walked around more hospital beds. I assumed that whoever was infected was still here, so I kept quiet while trying to keep my actions quiet, too.

I hated how memories came flooding back when I was trying to focus.

Rose and my parents have been here a few times during their careers as officers. Some criminals they caught fought back, and they ended up getting hurt. I lost track of the number of times my teachers pulled me aside to tell me that my loved ones were being hospitalized. I remembered how scared I was when I was thinking the worst. I was 11 years old when my sister showed me the scars that covered her body. "I want battle scars too!" I had told her.

It seemed that I got what I wanted.

I brushed my fingertips along my eyepatch, biting my lip when I felt the empty gap where my eye once was through the fabric. It didn't hurt as much as it did before, but I still felt sad that I was going to be stuck with one eye for the rest of my life, however long that may be. I groaned and slapped my hands down at my sides before continuing to walk down the deep and dark hallways. I wasn't scared of being alone in the dark. I was scared of not being alone in the dark.

I decided to pull out my flashlight from my rucksack to make things a bit easier. I could see in the dark better than most people, but it wasn't easy with only half my field of vision. The beam of light danced along the walls. Eventually, it landed on a panel that had an orange glow. I gasped before walking up to it and using the keycard on it. The panel went dark and the door slowly creaked open. I quickly walked away from the door. The creaking was loud, and I didn't want to attract anyone.

I peeked through the doorway to see another staircase leading to the second floor. The darkness that loomed closer towards the ceiling sent a shiver down my spine. I slowly stepped away from the door before swiftly turning around and heading back in the direction of the room I woke up in. I didn't know who or what was up there, but I knew that it wasn't good. I went back to Bunny, who was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.

"Hey, buddy! Did you find anything yet?" Bunny asked with a smile when she saw me walk up to her. I nodded. "The doors going upstairs are open now, but I don't think we're alone," I explained. Bunny's expression turned serious as she nodded at me. "Alright then, let's keep moving, the sooner we get out of here the better," she said as she got off of the wall. I nodded and followed her while keeping my distance. Although she was a friend of Rose's and a friend of mine, I didn't trust her entirely.

She was keeping a lot of things from me, just like Luciana.

For starters, she never told me how long I was out for. She completely ignored my question when I brought it up. In addition, everytime I took the tiniest glance at her eyepatch, she immediately looked the other way. I didn't bother to ask her since she'd probably tell me that it wasn't something I should worry about or that it was none of my business. A part of me wanted to keep my distance, while the other part knew that as of now, she was all I had.
