Lucinda's POV:
"So, Cindy... What were you doing before all of this?"
I turned to look at Zizzy as we walked towards the abandoned hotel they turned into their safe place. It was definitely bigger than it seemed from up on the building we were on. There was a lot of open space between the hotel and the gate guarding it. I assumed that Zizzy wanted to break the deafening silence that filled the atmosphere by asking that question. I took my hands out of my pockets before answering.
"Just the usual; doing more research on humans. I started looking for Georgie, too," I replied, "What about you two? It's been a while since I've last seen you." The three of us knew that was true. The last I heard of Zizzy was when I was talking with Zuzy about her fencing practices. I haven't heard anything about Pony in a long time. The two looked at each other before turning back to me. Pony spoke up.
"I was trying to become an optometrist like my father," he said as he readjusted his glasses. I've started to notice that Pony was warming up to me a bit more. I wasn't sure why he was cold to me I'm the first place, but that was a question I could ask him under better conditions. I made a mental note to myself that Pony was also someone who wanted to follow in the footsteps of a family member. We seemed to have a lot more in common. Zizzy spoke next.
"And I'm still a fencing coach, I taught my little sisters some new tricks!" She said. Zizzy then turned to look at the hotel with a sad smile on her face, "I'm so relieved that they're safe here with me." I felt my heart break a little. A part of me even felt jealous of Zee and Zuzy. They still had their older sister. They still had someone to look after them. They still had someone biologically related to them. I, on the other hand, didn't have any of those.
"Yeah..." Pony added as a guilty look formed on his face. Though they were my friends, there was a lot to them that I didn't know. However, I wouldn't push them to answer any questions. The feeling of jealousy caused guilt to fill my mind. I didn't know why I was feeling this way, but I did know that I'd get an earful if anyone found out. All I could do was what I knew how to do best; keep all my feelings and needs bottled up to myself.
I held back a heavy sigh as I looked down at the pavement below. I played with my hands behind my back as I tapped my foot awkwardly. Silence fell over us once more like a thick blanket. I shifted back and forth in my position behind my two friends. I flinched when I heard Zizzy's voice speak once more. "How'd you end up at the carnival?" She asked as she turned back to look at me, a confused expression on her face,"I heard you were looking for Mr.P."
I moved my hands back to my sides before looking back up at the zebra. "Mr.P has been giving out potions," I explained, "They turn you into the infected." My blood boiled as I spoke. I thought back to everything Mr.P did to Bunny and I. He deemed me a lost cause and left us for dead. Then he gave Bunny the potion, knowing what it did to others. "No...it goes further back than that..." I told myself. He gave the Piggy family those potions. That's what caused them to kill my family. They weren't in control. I didn't know much, but I did know one thing in particular.
"I need to stop him from doing this and avenge everyone I've lost."
Rose, my mother, my father, Doggy and Bunny. They all sacrificed themselves so I could live, so I could keep moving forward. I've felt nothing but guilt for leaving them for dead. Even though I was forced to, I knew that by doing so, I was no better than Mr.P. In addition to the hatred towards him, I also felt a little hatred towards myself for not being able to help the ones who've helped me for years. That only increased my determination to find Mr.P.
Zizzy and Pony must've noticed that my fists were about to break from clenching so hard since the zebra put a hand on my shoulder, causing me to snap back to reality. "You should at least stay here for a little," she said, "We can help you find him." I loosened my grip on my fists as I looked up at her once more. Two voices were screaming in my head. One was demanding me not to drag them into my mess, while the other was suggesting that I took whatever help I could get.
