Lucinda's POV:
"Go get Mom and Dad!"
I picked up the code and Rose's gun before running around Rose and Penny, who were wrestling against the wall. I wanted to shoot Penny, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm sure Rose wouldn't want to shoot her best friend, either. "Mom! Dad!" I shouted as I ran to the kitchen and jumped out the window. "Cindy?" Mom asked, "What's going on?" I couldn't answer because I was breathing heavily. "Where's your sister?" I managed to find my voice. "It's Rose! She's..."
As if on cue, I heard it; A blood-curdling scream. Rose's blood-curdling scream.
Mom and Dad heard it too. It sounded as if Rose was in so much pain. It was like she was yelling for help without using words. This was the loudest scream I've ever heard Rose let out. Rose didn't get scared often, but that scream let us know that she was terrified. "Oh no.." I thought to myself. "ROSE!" I heard Mom scream before she ran into the house, Dad following her right after. I flinched at the sound of a gunshot before following my parents into the basement.
And what I saw would scar me for life.
Penny was laying on her side on the floor. There was a bullet hole in her leg, so she couldn't get up. A bloodstained bat sat next to her on the floor. I looked over to see Dad pointing his gun at her. I noticed Mom had fallen to her knees with her hands over her mouth as tears threatened to pour. I walked up next to Mom to see what she was looking at. I noticed what she was looking at, and I felt my heart stop. My legs felt weak and shaky as I stared at her.
Something was dripping as I stared at her feet. The lower part of her legs was open in a V shape, while the upper part of her legs was together. Her knees were bent, allowing me to see a red puddle underneath. Her hands laid limp by her sides and her chest wasn't moving. Her head down, resting against the stairs, but I could still see her face. Her eyes were always bright and filled with joy, but now they were dull and had a blank expression on them. Blood streamed down from the top of her head like a river before splitting once it reached her nose. Some of it was dripping off of her nose. As much as I didn't want to believe it, I knew deep down that I would have to accept it.
Accept the fact that my beloved big sister was dead.
I wanted to cry, but my stomach didn't agree. I had to turn around and throw up. I could feel Mom grab my hair and hold it back with one hand while another was on my back. "It's okay, sweetie, let it out," she muttered. Deep down we both knew that the situation was anything but okay. Rose was dead! Once I had let out everything I needed to let out, I turned around to look at Mom before sobbing into her chest. This was too painful to handle.
While sobbing, I couldn't help but ask myself why this was happening? The last time I saw Rose alive, she was wrestling Penny. Speaking of Penny, I was angry at her. Why did she kill Rose? Rose was nothing but nice to her, and this is how Penny repays her? They've been friends for 17 years! I pushed those thoughts at the back of my head as I continued sobbing into Mom's chest. It was all I could, after all. I just lost my sister, my idol, my everything.
Mom wrapped her arms around my small figure while rocking me back and forth. I knew that Mom was crying with me while Dad was just staring at his eldest daughter's body. I felt glad that I asked for Rose's trench. At least I had something to remember her by. Even though I had Rose's trench and gun, that wasn't going to bring her back. "Rose is dead," I thought to myself. And that was all I could think. "Rose is dead, Rose is dead, Rose is dead, Rose is-"
"If you don't see yourself as a good person, know that I do."
What?
"You're my pride and joy, Cindy. You're my motivation to keep working hard." Why were Rose's words playing in my head? This wasn't a good time, either. Rose was dead! "Sure, you're annoying sometimes, but having you as my little sister is one of the best things ever." Now I felt bad. If I had known about Rose's death sooner, I wouldn't have annoyed her as much as I did. "Whatever you put your mind to, I just know it'll be something amazing." Will it be amazing, though?
