Lucinda's POV:
I was pretty light for someone my age.

My parents could easily pick me up. So could Rose and her friends, even the ones who went into fields such as cooking and business management. I had gotten even lighter these past 4 weeks, aswell. Back when I was staying at the forest with Doggy, it was hard to find food that wasn't rotten and expired. I didn't get to eat much because of that. I was pretty sure that I lost atleast 10 pounds thanks to practically starving myself.

Bunny knew that I was vulnerable in our current position. My arms and my legs laid limp. My head rested on her shoulder as she caressed my back gently. It didn't seem like she was going to let go anytime soon, and I was okay with that. I couldn't warm up to her, but perhaps I could allow myself to let my guard down for a few moments. I remembered when my sister would carry me to my room in this position after we got home from someone's birthday party late at night.

"You're okay...I was so worried when I saw the doctor go downstairs. Did anything happen?" I heard Bunny say. I bit my lip as a knot formed in my stomach. I have never lied to anyone in my entire 12 years of being on this twisted world. Although I knew I would get punished, I always told the truth. However, I realized that I was good at keeping my mask on. I was hiding all my weak parts deep inside. I didn't want to, but I knew that I had to. Soon, I finally answered Bunny's question.

"No."

My heart ached for having to lie to her after everything she's done for me, but I had no choice. If I told the truth, she would start worrying more about me than about herself. It was bad enough that she was already dead set on protecting me. I didn't want her to take a fatal hit meant for me. My sister did the same thing, and couldn't take another person dying because I put myself in danger. I wasn't sure whether I was a danger magnet or if danger kept finding me everywhere.

"Oh, good..." Bunny muttered in response as she ran her fingers through my slightly tangled hair. "Stay close to me from now on, okay?" She then asked, "I don't want anything bad happening to you." I nodded weakly as I took my head off of her shoulder. Bunny then set me down on my feet and didn't let go of me until I was stable. I knew that Bunny cared about me before the infection, but now she seemed to be overprotective of me.

I then found myself turning around to face the door of the stairwell. The infected doctor was down there. A part of me felt pity for him. Although he wasn't one of my friends, I knew him well. Whenever Rose and my parents were in the hospital, he was there to keep me company. He sat down and talked to me about school and my life while the other doctors treated my loved ones as fast as they could. I sighed as I turned back around and followed Bunny.

I then took out my late sister's gun before turning the safety off.

____________

"Holding and firing a pistol with one hand is tricky, but not impossible."

That's what my father told me once at the shooting range. Up until that point, he had taught me how to shoot with two hands. He, my mother, and Rose knew how to fire with one hand. Once again, I was the odd one out. I knew that I had been stuck in the shadows of my family, so I got used to being in there and accepted the fact that it was where I would stay. While I did know a good portion of what they knew, I couldn't seem to get it as perfect as they could.

I sighed as ran my fingers along the surface of the cold wall. The rose gold gun was held tightly in my other hand, the index finger on the trigger. Bunny wasn't far ahead of me. She was currently peeking her head into the cafeteria of the hospital. It was slightly smaller than the one back at the school, but the same creepy aura covered the room. Bunny went into the cafeteria and tilted her head to the side, silently telling me to come in. I nodded and did what she said.
