⚠️TW!! Mentions of guns and swords!!⚠️

Lucinda's POV:
Rose was a really smart and athletic student in school.

I remembered how my parents and I would go to Rose's tournaments. Rose did cross-country, basketball, and swimming throughout her four years of high school. She certainly made a name for herself in physical education. She would always hang her medals and put her trophies around her room. Besides her room being pink, it was covered in gold, silver, and bronze. I was amazed at how Rose was able to fit three sports into her schedule.

The moment she got her first gun, which I now had, was when jealousy crept up on me.

It was then that I realized that I wanted what she had. While it was true that I loved Rose more than anything and anyone, I couldn't stop myself from feeling anything but jealousy when she came across my mind. People would come up to me begging me to introduce them to her. Rose, although not royalty, was practically Lucella's princess. She was kind, pretty, and had a good future ahead of her. All that, and yet she still tucked me in bed. She still picked me up from school. She still told me she loved me.

And yet a part of me hated her.

I hated how the majority of the things I had were hand-me-downs from her. I hated how she was a faster learner than I was. I hated how I was "never ready", meanwhile she always ready. I knew that my mother and father didn't like picking favorites, and they've told us that countless times, but I couldn't help but feel like I was the scapegoat and Rose was the golden child. I struggled to hide my jealousy when she would get the cool things I wanted. That jealousy slowly turned into hatred after I turned nine.

The negative feelings towards my older sister made my head hurt as I walked along the concrete path. I managed to fix my hair the best I could. I put away the headband and brushed it out before putting two portions on my shoulders. One was left alone while I braided the other. I had heard a voice from the walkie-talkie a little over six minutes ago. The voice sounded familiar, but, along with my eyesight, my hearing wasn't good either. I could tell that the voice belonged to a male. He told me to go to the high school for some reason.

The only sounds I could hear were my footsteps on the concrete path, the trees moving in the wind, the jingles of the keychains on my rucksack, and the crickets hidden away. Both of my hands held the walkie-talkie in front of me. I hadn't heard anyone from it for a good while, which concerned me. And the message I got was a bit suspicious. How was I supposed to know that I wasn't being led to my doom? I bit my lip but kept walking forward. There wasn't anything else I could do, after all.

"As I left the forest to no longer be faced with such a harsh blow to my weak heart, I came across a radio with a voice that told instructed me to go to the high school, A.K.A Rose's high school. Clinging onto anything to distract my mind, I followed their instructions," I had written down in my journal a few minutes ago. I kept turning left and right, preparing for an infected to jump out from behind the bushes or from above the trees and attack me.

I looked down at my boots and pulled my brown scarf over my nose as I walked. It was starting to get chilly, after all. I tightened the black headband on my head before turning to the sky. The light of the moon caressed my dirty and rough skin. It shined brightly, but it still felt dim. The world was constantly giving me signs that something was off, but not of what was happening. They were about the mysteries around it. There seemed like there was more behind it than meets the eye.

My walk was normal, at least as normal as it could get, but then I felt like I was being watched. Followed, even. I flinched when I felt a hand grab my shoulder. I gasped before pulling out one of the swords from its sheath and pointed it behind me. I got confused when I heard a familiar chuckle. "You have very fast reflexes, Lucinda. Roselia taught you well." The voice said. I turned around. "Luciana," I replied. The older woman smiled.
