⚠️TW!! Blood and gore!⚠️

Lucinda's POV:
I felt...off.

I had no clue what it was, but it felt like a sudden weight had come onto my shoulders. The air around me suddenly grew cold, and a shiver went down my spine. The feeling of uncertainty continued to rush through me as I picked up the orange key from a bench on the outpost's upper level. I walked down to steps as I held the key tightly in my hand. "I remember seeing a building with an orange lock at the entrance..." I thought to myself.

I went down the second flight of stairs and through the gym before reaching the entrance, where Pony sat on a bench. His hands were clenched in his lap as he stared at the grass below. I bit my lip before deciding to leave him alone. I went over to the orange lock before unlocking it, then I kicked the door down, holding back a flinch as it hit the floor with a hard thud. I sighed before walking over the door and into the building.

I soon found myself in what looked to be a bedroom for the soldiers. Bunk beds lined the walls, and the red carpet covered the wooden floor below. I remembered seeing a green key on a bench in the gym, so I went back to it. I let out a sigh of relief when I spotted the green key on a bench next to the gym's entrance. I picked it up before quickly leaving the gym and heading down the stairs once more. I stopped once I reached the medbay.

I made a mental note of the yellow vault that sat on a bench to my left and was about to leave, but I felt something, somehow. I held back a gasp as I spun around on my heel and jumped back. I looked up to see a soldier standing at the entrance of the medbay, but they looked different than the ones Zizzy was taking care of. I couldn't tell what animal they were, but I took note of the yellow hazmat suit, the black gas mask, and the red goggles they were wearing.

I merely skimmed over the gray pants and black boots they were wearing once I realized that they were holding a flamethrower. I bit my lip as the soldier in yellow pulled the valve on their weapon, causing bright and hot flames to shoot out of the the nozzle. My instincts kicked in, and I was able to jump left and crawl out of the vent hole that was there. My nails were covered in dirt, but I had no choice but to ignore them. I quickly stood up and ran over to the medbay.

I noticed a red key that sat on a bench in the corner next to another entrance, and I quickly picked up. I was quick to run out of there the second I saw fire. "I'm getting used to using my one eye twice as much," I said to myself, "Maybe I could become stronger than Rose if I keep this up." The thought of being stronger than my older sister was something I berated myself for thinking. Perhaps it was the result of being stuck in her shadow my whole life.

I went up the steps at the back and passed Zizzy, who was stabbing a green soldier back into the ground, and made my way to a door locked by a red lock. Once I threw the lock out of the way, I turned around and gasped at what I saw. "Cindy!" I heard Zizzy cry as the soldier with the flamethrower stopped me from opening the door. I did a back handspring and ended up a few feet away from my previous spot. I knew that Zizzy was too busy handling the soldiers coming out of the ground to help me, so I had to handle them on my own.

Zizzy stabbed another soldier into the ground, and something hit me.

Time seemed to slow down once that realization came to me. It was as though the world was blessing me with an opportunity to think, as though it wanted to apologize for what it has done to me and the ones I cared about. "Everytime Zizzy stabbed the soldiers," I began to myself, "They would fall back into the ground, covered in blood. There definitely aren't that many soldiers in a tiny hole. That could only mean one thing..." I finally understood. That was why my wounds healed faster than normal.
