Ch. 33 Self destruction

So Yami, Sora, Ironheart, Chris and Skye had all made it atop another cliff, and when they stopped walking, they looked down into the valley just as Ironheart announced, "There it is."

"So what do we do when we get there?" Yami asked Ironheart.

"Not we, you must enter the sacred circle on your own. After all, this is your journey." Ironheard answered firmly.

"Very well, I accept the challenge." Yami accepted, just before he began running down while he shouted out Yugi's name.

"Wait for me, Yami!" Sora announced as she went to go after Yami so she could help him.

"Sora, come back!" Chris called out, which got Sora curious as she turned around to face the young girl.

"Only one soul seeker is permitted to enter at a time. If you proceed, the spirits will sense you immediately." Ironheart explained to Sora realistically, which got Sora to sigh and she looked down to where Yami was going while she softly said "Be careful."

After that, Sora began to climb back up so she could stand next to Ironheart, Chris and Skye. Then she saw that Yami had just arrived at the valley floor and began to walk toward the circle, before she heard evil laughter around Yami and she saw that the skies were darkening with storm clouds. Sora noticed Yami looking around and he asked who was there before he continued on. Then when Sora saw that Yami had approached the circle, there were voices telling him to turn back and Yami demanded that they show themselves. Then there were small balls of light beginning to swirl about the circle, and it got Sora curious so she turned to Ironheart and asked him, "What's going on?"

"Your boyfriend's attracting lost souls that seek revenge." Ironheart answered firmly, which got Sora nervous for Yami that she clutched her chest and whispered Yami's name.

Then Sora saw that Yami was being surrounded by the spirits of opponents that he had defeated before: There was PaniK whom Sora had dueled in Duelist Kingdom and Yami put him into oblivion after he tried burning Sora to death after she defeated him in their duel, there was also the Paradox brothers whom Sora & Yami dueled and defeated together when they dueled together like a team, even Bandit Keith whom Sora defeated in the finals, even the Rare Hunter Yami dueled against when winning Joey's Red Eyes Black Dragon card back in Battle City, the magician that Sora didn't recognize but assumed that Yami must have dueled him in Battle City while she was dueling her opponents, Marik's dark side, and even Weevil. Even though Yami was being surrounded by those spirits, he still walked on with determination until he stood in the center of the circle and called for Yugi. With that, the lights circled and began to combine, leaving Sora curious as she watched on.

"You see that, Sora? It means the spirit's crossing over into our world. Keep watching." Chris told Sora what was going on, and Sora hoped that this wouldn't mean danger for Yami.

So Sora saw Yugi appear, which got her surprised and she exclaimed "Yugi!" before she saw Yami reaching out for Yugi but his arm went through Yugi's form. After that, Sora saw Yami apologizing to Yugi for everything he did as he looked very sad and remorseful, and when he mentioned about Rafael being right about how evil Yami was, Sora felt her heart break and she wished that she could just tell him that Rafael was wrong about what he said as well as she wished she could tell him that Yugi getting his soul taken wasn't his fault.

With that, Sora saw that Yugi was challenging Yami to a duel as he readied his duel disk because Yami said that his spirit should be locked away instead of Yugi's when he blamed himself for his downfall, and even worse, Yugi seemed to be turning on Yami by telling him that he didn't deserve to be part of this world and that it was time for him to take responsibility for what he's done as well as he should be a man and face him in a duel. Yami was hesitant but he got his duel disk ready himself as he seemed to have accepted Yugi's challenge, which got Sora shocked and she asked, "So Yami and Yugi are gonna duel each other? But why?"
