Chapter 18- Amery

The next morning, I try to act as inconspicuous as possible. In order for this plan to work, I have to make it seem like I had no part in Cal & Nora's plan. If Mom & Dad suspect something, they probably won't let me take over the position as Chieftain, & will likely interrogate me & try to track down Cal & Nora... Hopefully they're deep enough in the forest by now that no one would dare go far in there...

I go about my daily routine, trying to seem like it is just a regular day. At 1st, Mom & Dad seem oblivious to the fact that Nora & Cal are even missing, thinking that they're just sleeping in or something... I have to keep reminding myself to keep my face neutral & not crack up laughing at the irony & sheer joy of them having finally escaped this backwards town. I even have to stop myself from chuckling when Mom & Dad start to ask about Cal & Nora, putting on an oblivious, innocent face, & a shocked 1 when we all "discover" that they're missing.

Dad heads a search party for Nora, not caring whether Cal is found or not, sending the town police officer around to try to collect some clues. They aren't able to find much, luckily. Nora had sprayed an obnoxious perfume in the room after they had jumped through the window, covering the entire room in the scent. This would prevent the search dog from smelling anything left behind besides the perfume, masking their true scent from tracking.

Even the footprints out in the fields seemed ordinary. They had both worn the same style boots as the farmers that night, so no one could trace it back to them. All they could tell was that their backpacks, some clothes & some food were gone, so they had gone somewhere... They just didn't know where...

Mom & Dad were both enraged & worried, & I couldn't help feeling bad for them... Almost. I had to sit back along with Indie pretending that we didn't know what had happened, which was a bit hard at 1st... I mean... Mom & Dad had always known that me, Cal & Nora were as thick as thieves, so they must have told me something, right? But I told them that while I had noticed that they were acting a little strange the night in question, they hadn't told me anything.

This convinced my parents that I was innocent, enabling them to trust me, which would be good for the future when I took over. I just hoped everything was going ok on Nora & Cal's end...

Hope you guys liked this chapter :). Sorry I haven't updated in a while, I didn't know where to go w plot &... you know how it is... It's funny, I planned out another short story in this world better than this 1 :'D. Welp, that's all for now, folks. See you lates :D
