Chapter 45- Briar

I smile, chuckling lightly at his confused & shocked expression. He's so adorable with that face... "Yeah, I'm the prince, but it's ok that you didn't know that..." I laugh lightly, completely not minding as I don't really care about my royal position but he seems shocked & scared.

"I'm- really sorry!" He raises his hands up in a surrender gesture, eyebrows raised, but I smile kindly.

"Hey- it's ok, it happens a lot... I don't really get out much, so you needn't worry about it..."

"No, really..." He shakes his head fervently & I kinda smile at the gesture. The way his silky hair flops around with the motion. "I'm- I-"

I put my hand on his shoulder momentarily & he blushes slightly. "Hey, it's ok, don't worry about it. You're hired anyway. You seem like you have... a much better disposition than my last secretary..."

He frowns slightly, distracted momentarily. "What do you mean by that?"

I frown, looking away. "I just mean... she was so cruel & impatient & rude... & you seem..." I feel my face heat & I clear my throat nervously. "So... nice..."

He blinks at me for a moment. "Oh. Thanks..." He clears his throat nervously before changing the subject. "Would I... need to commute for this position every day or... Because I live an hour away..."

I frown slightly. "Well... I was just expecting you to live here, if I'm being honest... All the palace staff do... it makes things much easier, & you'd have your own room..."

He frowns, blinking at me. "Oh. But... I have a lot of friends back home &..."

I wave my hands dismissively at him. "It's ok, do whatever you want to do. Just... make sure you get here by 10 am & you can leave after 3 pm... Lunch will be provided with the salary..."

He blinks at me again. "Oh, wow, thanks... So... if I want... I can commute everyday?"

I smile kindly. "Yeah, should you want to... We would cover gas mileage as well &... you wouldn't really need to leave your house that early... I mean... I don't do a whole lot of events anymore..." I laugh nervously & he looks at me curiously, head tilted to 1 side.

"'Anymore'? Why's that?"

I wave my hands dismissively, looking away. "A lot of... complicated reasons, but enough about that... Let's... give you a tour of the palace & summary of what you'll be doing here! Very important!"

What do you guys think so far? Briar seems so understanding toward Elio- or maybe that's just bc he likes him ,':)
