I blink at her slowly, not really expecting that, but not angry, of course. "T-that's... nice. Wow. I... wasn't expecting that... that's cool..."
Her eyebrows draw together, frowning slightly, & I find myself wanting to reach up & smooth her worried forehead. I put my arms on her shoulders supportively instead, not knowing where this feeling is coming from. "& this... isn't weird to you?"
I shake my head reassuringly, frowning slightly. My eyes meet hers certainly. "No. No. I- was kinda surprised initially, yes, but... It's not totally out of the ordinary... I mean... yes, there is a majority of humans in my country, but... obviously other people as well... I have to represent everyone, &... especially in the city, there are a lot of different kinds of people out there..." I meet her eyes, hands firmly on her shoulders. "What I'm saying is that- it's ok with me... Even if I might be a little ill-informed..."
She smiles shyly, face reddening, & hair falling into her face slightly. I brush it back behind her ear tenderly & look in her eyes for a moment. "Thank you..."
I smile kindly. "No problem... Can I... can I see...? Or is that rude to ask?"
She grins, shaking her head. "No... It's ok, I guess..." She swims on her back, jetting off away from me, tail drawing up into the air & I gasp in surprise. Flashes of emerald green & teal scales peak out under the water's surface & my eyes fixate on it in fascination. She grins at me proudly, swimming quickly in circles around me, doing a few flips & moves in the water before coming to rest in the water next to me.
I grin slowly. "Wow... That was... so cool!"
She smiles shyly, looking up at me slowly. "T-thank you..."
I smile slowly. "Can I... see your whole tail...?"
She grins, nodding, face red. "Yeah... sure... No problem..." She pulls herself up onto the rock ledge with her strong arms & I watch for a moment. Her tail glistens in the midday sun, tints of green & blue-green scales with delicate, but strong looking fins on the ends & sides.
"W-wow... That's... so cool... Your tail is... very pretty..."
She smiles shyly, face red. "T-thanks... I don't think I've had anyone compliment me on that before..."
"Does... the rest of your family have tails similar to yours...?"
She nods minutely. "Yeah, yeah... Somewhat... I mean, there are similarities, between family members, I guess... Tail patterns & colors are genetic, as most things are..."
I nod slowly. "Oh... cool. So, like eye color or something..."
She smiles. "Y-yeah... Something like that..."
"So... whose is yours similar to?"
She smiles sadly. "My mom's, I guess... it doesn't look much like my dad's..."
I nod slowly. "You... 'guess...'?"
She looks away for a second, 1 hand tracing the rock ledge slowly. "I... never knew my mother... she left my egg in my ex-step mom's clutch &... My dad raised me after that..."
I frown slightly, eyes sad. "I'm sorry... I wish you could have known your mother..." She smiles understandingly. I hug her reluctantly, feeling it says more than words ever could. Slowly, she draws her head onto my shoulder, hair brushing against it softly. I back up slowly & we look at each other for a moment before I try to lighten the mood. "'Egg' though...?"
She chuckles. "Yeah. There are a lot of differences between us. Can be kinda complicated at times..."
I smile shyly. "It'd be cool to learn though... To get to know your world more..."
Her face reddens & she looks up at me slowly, smile widening. "Y-yeah... I'd... like that..."
I feel my face heat & I smile at her. "Me too..."
Aw, they are so cute :3 <3
