Jeremiah

Our journey continued with me driving for the next two hours. I'm glad that Lisa and I were able to fix things because I don't like it when we argue, especially when it's because Lisa is feeling insecure.

I'm still angry at that Jonathan for the way he treated Lisa which caused her to feel like this. I reached over to hold my sleeping girlfriend's hand as I took a quick glance at her, calming my nerves.

Not long after, we've already reached back to Non Pariel. I drove up to Lisa's driveway and parked the car.

"Lili. We're here." I leaned over the centre console and whispered to my girlfriend. She grunted and scrunched her face, wanting to continue sleeping. "Come on, Lili. You will get to sleep more comfortably on the bed." I placed kisses all over her face, making her smile before giggling.

"I'm awake. I'm awake." I leaned back when Lisa opened her eyes. "That tickles." I chuckled before giving her one last kiss on the cheek.

"Let's go." I hopped out of the car and went to the trunk to collect our bags. When I managed to hold all four bags, I shut the door and walked to the front of the car, where Lisa was waiting. She reached out to take one of them from me but I backed away. "I've got it."

"Jeremiah, let me help you." My girlfriend irritatedly said.

"You should not be fetching these."

"I'm pregnant, not handicapped." Lisa rolled her eyes. "Just give me one. I don't want you hurting your shoulders." I looked at her skeptically before finally giving in.

"Here." I gave her the smallest bag in my hands. We walked into the house and left the luggage at the living room. I sat down and Lisa went to get some water.

"Thanks." I said when a glass of water was handed to me.

"Are you going to go home to see your mother?" Lisa asked when she sat next to me. I shook my head.

"I'm not sure she'll be home. And I want to spend as much time as I can with you before you leave."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. I'm sure, Lili. Besides, it would be easier for us to go to the hospital tomorrow without all the hassle." Lisa nodded and gave me a quick peck, yawning after. "Tired?"

"A little." She cuddled up to my side.

"Let's take you to bed." I stood up and pulled Lisa along with me.

"But we're supposed to spend time together." My lover whined as we walk to her bedroom.

"We still have a whole week left. Besides, you're sleepy. Knowing you, how long more do you think your eyes will even still be open?" I sat on the bed and Lisa laid down.

"I can't argue with that. Maybe you should go see your mother in the meantime then. I don't want you to be bored waiting on me." She said slowly, barely keeping her eyes open.

"Okay. I will." I gave Lisa a peck on the forehead before she dozed off. "I love you." I said even though she can't hear me. I left the room and went out of the house.

"Hello Dr. Morris." Lili hugged her doctor.

"It's good to see you again, Lisa." Dr. Morris returned the hug. "And you too Jeremiah." She said when they let go of each other.

"You too, Ma'am." I gave her a handshake.

After the greetings, Lili was placed on the ultrasound bed. Lisa had to raise her top and a fetal doppler was first used on her bulging belly to hear the baby's heartbeat.

"It's at 120 beats per minute." Both Lisa and I looked at the doctor in confusion, not knowing what that meant. "That's normal." Dr. Morris laughed when she saw our faces. Lisa and I smiled at each other, letting out a breath of relief.

Unlike the last time, an abdominal ultrasound was done, thankfully. As Dr. Morris moved the transducer around Lisa's stomach, my girlfriend's sweaty hand held onto mine, giving it a tight squeeze. I gave her a reassuring smile and a peck on the forehead before we both looked at the screen.

"Oh." The doctor looked at the screen with raised eyebrows, making us do the same. "Well, what do we have here."

"What is it?" Lisa and I both asked.

"You're going to have a b-," she stopped what she was saying. "Oh, would you like to know the sex of the baby?" Dr. Morris said while blocking a part of the screen.

Lisa looked at me as if asking what I thought about it. I just shrugged my shoulders, allowing her to choose what is best for her. Lisa shook her head after some thinking.

"I think I want a surprise baby shower. I will let my mother call you to find out? Or maybe Jafhia." Lisa said after remembering the situation with her mother.

"Okay, I'll wait for their call." Dr. Morris passed Lisa a damp cloth to wipe the gel from her abdomen. "If you have any questions, I'm just a call away, okay? Don't be afraid to ask. And I'll see you again for my little girl's birthday." She leaned over to hug the upper part of the pregnant teacher.

"Do you know something she might want?" As the two talked, I gently wiped the gel from Lisa's belly. I took this time to think back to earlier.

'I'm sure I heard Dr. Morris make a 'B' sound earlier. Is Lisa going to have a boy? God forbid.' I looked up and silently prayed, 'God, please give me a baby girl. I'll do anything.'

"Jeremiah?" Lisa's voice brought me out of my thoughts. "Are you okay? You spaced out just now," she said worriedly with a soft tone.

"Yeah, I was just thinking. What were you saying?"

"I said we could leave now." When I looked around the room, I saw that Dr. Morris had already left.

"Oh." I immediately helped Lisa off the table and we walked hand in hand out of the room, and down the corridor. "Hey, Lisa?"

"Hmm?" She hummed in response.

"Did you hear Dr. Morris-" I stopped my words. If I told Lisa my suspicions and the baby turns out to be a boy, then that will ruin the entire surprise. "You know what? Never mind."

"Are you sure you're okay?" Lisa asked.

"I'm fine, Lili." I chuckled and leaned to kiss Lisa quickly. She giggled.

"Well, I was just thinking that this is really suspenseful. So when we do find out the sex of the baby, it will be even more exciting."

'Well, I'm really dreading the wait right now, Lisa,' I thought to myself. 

"We both can't wait, Lili," I replied with a strained smile. We continued walking until we reached to the car. Right before we both entered the car from our own sides, I shouted out to Lisa. "Hey, I want to take you out on a date."

"What? Now?" Lisa looked at me in surprise.

"No. Some time before you leave. I'm just telling you now so you can prepare yourself."

"Okay." Lisa said with a bright smile. She entered the car and I did the same. After we both finished buckling up our seat belts, Lisa looked at me. "Are you paying?"

"Huh?"

"Are you paying? For the date?" She asked again.

"Of course I'm am. Who else? I'm the one asking you on a date right?" I said with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah."

"Exactly, I'm not a cheapskate."

"Good." She gave me a kiss on the cheek before driving off.
