Lisa
"Are you ready to go? Your bladder all full and ready?" Jeremiah asked as soon as I open the front door.
"Yes. Let's go." He gave me a kiss on the cheek before we get into my car.
"I already know you're excited." Jeremiah said as I'm driving. "But are you nervous?"
"Nervous is an understatement," I paused and let out a shaky breath, "but the excitement overpowers it."
"Well, it's normal to be nervous, Lili. You'll be alright. " And there goes my fluttering heart again.
"I hope so." I sent him a quick glance.
For the rest of the ride we were in comfortable silence, until we reached the hospital.
"I don't know if I want to do this anymore." I panicked while we're still in the car.
"Why not, Lili?" Jeremiah moved my hair from my face, caressing my cheek.
"What if something is wrong with the baby?" He leaned over and gave me a lingering kiss on the forehead.
"Relax. Now breathe." I took deep breaths. "That's it, Lili."
"It's just that ever since Dr. Morris told me about me fainting and the baby could have problems because it, I've been feeling nervous about it."
"She said the baby's okay, didn't she?"
"Yes, but-" He cut me off.
"No buts. The baby's fine, you're fine, everything is fine. Now stop worrying. That never helped anyone."
"You're right. I should stop worrying before anything even happens. Thank your, Jeremiah, for you wise words." I said after a couple minutes of breathing deeply to lighten up the mood.
"You're welcome." He chuckled. "Now, are you ready now?" I nodded and we walked hand in hand to the hospital, going to the receptionist desk.
"Good morning. I'm here to see Dr. Morris."
"Ms. Manoban." The young receptionist exclaimed. "Please have a seat and she will be right with you." He gave me a smile.
"Thank you." I smiled back at him then Jeremiah and I went to sit.
"Did you see how he was looking at me?" Jeremiah asked when we sat down.
"Who? The receptionist?"
"Yes. He was seriously giving me the stank eye." He replied, showing me a stank eye.
"No he wasn't. He's nice to me."
"Exactly, Lisa, to you. I think he likes you."
"No he doesn't."
"Really? Then look at him now." When I turned, the receptionist, who is named Kyle, was smiling. "See? When I was looking he gave me a glare but when he saw you, he was all smiles."
"I didn't see anything." Jeremiah facepalmed.
"Ms. Manoban." Someone called my name, making me raise my hand. "Right this way." We both got up and Jeremiah held my bag as we went on our way.
"How are you, Lalisa?" My doctor asked when I walked into the room.
"I'm good Dr. Morris. How about your children?"
"They miss you. Lidya's birthday is in August, maybe you could come by?"
"Oh no. I won't be here in August." She made a disappointed face.
"'Oh no' is correct."
"But since it's late in the month, I could just shorten my vacation." I suggested.
"Dear, you don't have to do."
"It's alright. I miss them, too."
"Well, if you insist. So, who is this?" I completely forgot about Jeremiah.
"This is.. uhm... Jeremiah, yes Jeremiah." I stuttered.
After the two greeted each other, I was given a hospital gown to wear because I have to take off my bottoms. I then layed on the ultrasound table with my knees up when I was finished. I smiled shyly when I saw Jeremiah's reddened cheeks .
"So what we're going to do today is the transvaginal ultrasound since it's so early in your pregnancy. It might be a bit uncomfortable but i promise it won't hurt." I nodded my head at what Dr. Morris said.
After placing a condom on the transducer, Dr. Morris applied lubricant to it. She put the transducer in the place where the ultrasound name suggests. As she said, it was uncomfortable. Jeremiah held my hand, making me forget about how it felt. About twenty minutes had passed, and the doctor still could not see the baby on the screen, and I panicked again.
"What's wrong? Where is the baby?" I asked frantically.
"Relax, Lili. It's going to be okay." Jeremiah tried to soothe me, giving me a hug.
"This is normal. It can take at least forty five minutes to finish an ultrasound, and that's if your baby cooperates." Dr. Morris reassured.
"Okay." I relaxed a bit.
"I see the fetus." She announced about twenty five minutes later. "Babies just like to play hide and seek." She smiled reassuringly to me.
"I don't even know what's happening on the screen." I laughed.
"I'll explain. You see the black oval? That's the gestation sac. The white ring is where your baby feeds from. And that's our little embryo." She pointed at everything and spoke which helped me. "Oh, there's the heartbeat."
"Wow. It's beautiful." I looked at it mesmerized. "Can I have a picture?"
"Of course."
Before leaving, she removed the transducer and did all the remaining necessities and gave me my clothing after.
I put on my underwear and pants before going back on the examination table. I laid back and took a deep breath.
"I can't believe I made such a scene and embarrassed myself."
"What are you talking about? You were just nervous. It's normal." Jeremiah said softly.
"I didn't even do some research. I don't know what kind of mother I'll really be."
"The best. You have a lot on your plate right now, so it's not wrong that it slipped your mind."
"I want to pee so bad right now." I said to change the topic.
"We'll be leaving just now." Jeremiah gave me a peck on the cheek.
Right then, Dr. Morris came in, making Jeremiah pull back.
"Here you go." I collected the picture.
"It's beautiful. I'm going to put this on my wall." I said. Jeremiah also came closer to look at it with me.
"Now, your baby is nine millimeters, which is normal. And your due date is between the sixteenth and the twenty sixth of December, depending on whether your baby wants to stay cozied up in there or is ready to come out and see the real world."
"Don't stay too long, my baby. Mommy already wants to see you."
"Your Christmas present from God." Jeremiah whispered to me and I smiled at the thought.
"Sure is."
"I'll see you next time, okay? And if you have any questions, feel free to call me."
"I will. Thank you." I placed my feet off the table and Jeremiah helped me off.
"You said you wanted to urinate, right? You want to go now?"
"Yes. If you don't mind waiting for a while."
"Of course not."
"Dr. Morris, where is the closest toilet?" I asked.
"You can use the one in my office."
"Thank you."
Jeremiah grabbed my bag and we followed my doctor. I quickly entered the washroom and released myself. We soon bid our goodbyes to Dr. Morris and left the room. As we walked out of the hospital, the receptionist waved at me.
