Lisa
"Jerry?" I said urgently to Jeremiah over the phone. We have been chatting for a while now and just looking at him is doing things to my heart.
"Yeah? What's wrong?" He asked worriedly, concern showing clearly on his face.
"I love you."
"Huh?" Jeremiah's face turned into one of confusion.
"I said I love you," I replied while smiling at him.
"Oh my gosh. Lisa! You had me worried for a second. I thought something happened to yo-"
"Aren't you going to say it back?" I seriously said with a blank expression.
"Of course. I love you too, Lili," Jeremiah said quickly after seeing my face.
"Took you long enough," I grumbled loud enough for him to hear as I braced my back on the head board.
"I'm sorry, Lili. I just thought something happened that's why. I love you so much. You know that ri-" I burst out laughing when I saw his panicked face.
"I'm just kidding, Jerry. I know you love me. No need to be so worried," I said while still in my fit of laughter.
"Lisa!" He whined. "Why do you always make me worried? I thought I was gonna have to deal with one of your mood swings today."
"None of that today, Jerry. I'm mood swing free since I'm in such a good mood," I said with a smile.
"Really? What's got you in such a good mood?" He questioned.
"I'll tell you when I get back, when you tell me what you said you would."
"Okay. Fair enough. You alright there?" I laid on my right side with my phone in front of me.
"My back is hurting again. I am in desperate need of one of your back massages right now." I scrunched up my face. "After the baby is born, you better not get me pregnant again."
"Okay. If you say so, Lili," he replied with a bellowing laugh.
"Excuse me?!" I angrily said, making his eyes widen and his laughter stop. "This is a serious matter, Jeremiah. I'm not joking about this. You don't know how much pain I'm feeling right now." And just like that, the tears start flowing. "My back is aching and I need a massage so bad right now." Sobs escaped my mouth. Right away, Jeremiah turned serious.
"Okay, okay Lili. Don't cry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I can't be there to help you. If only I could..." He panicked, speaking frantically.
"It's alright. I just... Sorry that I went off like that." With the way I'm crying right now, you would think someone died. "It is just so.. it's very frustrating."
"I know. Where's your father? Maybe he could do it for you." Jeremiah suggested.
"Him? Never again. He almost broke my back that last time."
"Then you can use heat."
"You're right. Why didn't I think of that?" I turned away from the phone. "Daddy!" I shouted out. Thundering footsteps made their way to my room before the door burst open.
"What's wrong? Is the baby coming already? But it's still early though. Oh no." He quickly moved to me with a panicked expression.
"No, Dad. The baby isn't coming. Is this how you behaved with my mother?" I chuckled. "But do you have a heating pad?" I smiled innocently.
"No. Why? Is your back hurting again?" I nodded. "Why didn't you just call me then?"
"Uhm... No thanks." I sent Jeremiah a quick knowing glance. "Can you just get me some hot water then?"
"Coming right up," he replied before walking out.
As my father heated up some water, Jeremiah and I continued to talk about random things. Apparently he has been staying at his aunt's house from her mother's side because he felt lonely in my house without me and in his because his mother wasn't there. About five minutes later, my father returned with a bowl of water and we paused our conversation.
"Thank you." I gave him a kiss on the cheek after he rested the bowl on the nightstand.
"Of course. Do you need anything else?"
"No. I'm good. Thanks again.
"Okay. I'm heading to bed now then"
"Good night, Daddy."
"Good night, Princess." He placed a kiss on my forehead before leaving my old room. My father is such an old man. He goes to bed before me. And that's saying a lot.
"So how is your mother?" I asked Jeremiah while grabbing a rag from one of my drawers.
"She's getting better. I don't know what she'll do after the treatment is over but I'm hoping for the best." Jeremiah replied in a low tone.
"That's good then."
I finally got back into bed. After soaking the cloth in the warm water and then squeezing it out, I laid back down on my side and placed the cloth on my lower back after raising my top.
"Are you doing alright there?" Jennie quickly changed the subject.
"Yeah." I went along with it. "It's a bit awkward because it feels like the cloth is kind of falling off since I can't lie on my stomach to keep it in place. But other than that, it's okay. I can feel it working."
Silence filled the air as neither of us spoke. We just stared at each other, like we were talking without words. And that's what I like about our relationship. Unlike Jona-. Never mind, this is about Jeremiah and I.
"You're getting tired, Lili." Jeremiah commented, snapping me out of a daze I didn't even know I was in. I unconsciously nodded. "Good night."
"Good night." I drowsily said.
"I love you, Lili." I heard Jeremiah's soft voice in the distance.
"Love you, too." I whispered the last word, falling into a slumber.
