Jeremiah

I packed my bag with water and some snacks. I'm going to visit my mother today. I haven't seen her in a while. When I went home yesterday, I found that she left a letter. She wrote that she has been going to rehab since the nineth of June. In the letter, my mother stated the name and address of the Rehabilitation Centre she is currently staying in so that I could come and visit her.

I grabbed the house key that Lisa had given to me before she left to visit her father from the kitchen counter. After checking my bag for the last time to make sure I had everything I needed, I walked out of the house and went to get a bus that would take me to where my mother is.

"Sweetie. You came." She said as she held out her hands after noticing me. I ran into her arms and gave her a tight hug.

"Hey, Mom."

"My boy. You've gotten so big," she said as she ruffled my here with a small smile. "There's a garden outside. Do you want to go there?" I nodded, making her take my hand to lead me to said destination.

"I brought chicken foot with me." I took out the container of chicken foot that was in my bag.

"Thank you, baby." Mom kissed my forehead. We dug in, adding sour every now and then.

"I've always wanted to know why they call it that" I said after a moment. I was advised to engage in casual conversations with my mother so that she could enjoy my visit.

"I don't think anybody knows," she laughed and I looked at her as a smile broke out on my face.

"I'm proud of you Mom. I know it must have been hard for you to do this, but you did." I sincerely said. This was another advice from the rehab website, among others.

"Thank you, Jeremiah." She pulled me for a hug. We talked some more until visiting hours were over. "You'll come back on Monday, right?" My mother asked hopefully. "Saturdays and Mondays are the two days for visiting."

"Yes, Mom. I'll come back."

"I love you, Sweetie." A few tears left her eyes.

"I love you too, Mom." I kept my own tears at bay.

After wiping away my mother's tears, we went back to the front. I went to talk to one of the staff looking after my mom.

"Hi. I'm Jeremiah Kim, Lois' daughter."

"I'm Nurse Carter." The woman introduced her self.

"How has she been doing?"

"Well, she talks about you a lot. So far she is following the treatment well. Keep encouraging her, Mr. Kim. She said she is doing this for you, and with your continuous support, I'm sure she'll get there."

"Thank you. And please, just call me Jeremiah."

When I reached out of the yard, I took a deep breath. While sitting in the bus, I took out my phone to call Rain. By the second ring, she picked up.

"Hey. What's up?" She said with a bright smile as usual.

"The sky."

"You idiot. Are you back at this nonsense? Do you want me to hang up?"

"No, no, no. I have favour. Can you ask Aunt Chelsea if I could stay with you guys for a bit?"

'Rain🤗': "Sure. Mom!" I heard her talking for a while. "She said why did you even ask? You're always welcome here."

"Okay. Thanks." Not longer after, I was already in front of Rain's house after collecting a few things from my own home as well as Lisa's since a lot of my things were there. As soon as I stepped in, I saw my aunt getting up from the chair she was sitting in.

"Aunt Chels." She took me into a hug as I sobbed.

"She's going to be okay, sweetie." Aunt Chelsea is my mom's sister, making Rain, and her brother and sister, my cousins. "You want to go put your things upstairs? Dinner will be ready in a bit." She said softly. I nodded and went to Rain's room after I received a kiss from her on my forehead.

"Why are you crying?" Rain worriedly asked when I reached her room.

"I'll tell you later."

As promised, after eating dinner and bathing, I laid on the bed with Rain. I told her about my mom and the time we had today, which she comforted me after seeing I was saddened again. I didn't allow my tears to fall this time though. Then we moved on to Lisa.

"I think she is the one who paid for everything." Rain said.

"I thought of that as soon as I read the letter from my mom. I wanted to confront her now but decided against it. She's on vacation so I should let her enjoy it and not focus on my problems." I paused. "Speaking of Lisa, guess what Rainie Rain?"

"What?"

"I said guess." I pound my fist on the bed.

"You know how much I hate guessing. Just tell me already." She argued.

"Fine." I sighed. "I think we're having a boy," I exasperated. Rain was left speechless. "Say something."

"So what?"

"What do you mean so what? I've always wanted to have a little princess to take care of. Now my dreams are crushed. Maybe I should swap the baby at the hospital."

"Are you sure you want to continue talking like this, Jeremiah? Maybe you should started going to a mental hospital. " I kinda expected this. "And you guys can always just make another one."

"Babies aren't cookies. What do you mean just make another one. Rain, you may not understand my decision but I hope you respect it."

"Whatever you say, clown. Of course I 'respect it'." She replied with air quotes. "I just hope you know what you're getting your self into."

"Yes. I know. Worst case scenario, they catch me and I say I picked up the wrong baby. Anyways, I have the perfect plan for the baby swap. Since Lis-" My phone ran and I saw it was Lisa, requesting a video call.

"Lili Bear? Seriously?" I pressed the answer button quickly, not minding what Rain said.

"Hi Jerry."

"Hello my Lili." Lisa giggled.

"Oh hello there, Rain." She said after getting a glimpse of my cousin.

"Hey Ms. Manoban. Would you get out of my room now? You're taking over precious space,. And I don't want to hear all your lovey dovey stuff" Rain directed the last two sentences to me while she opened her door with a gesture that clearly told me to leave.

"Did you have some fun today?" I asked my glowing girlfriend before mouthing "Jealous" to Rain. I went to the guest bedroom Aunt Chelsea prepared for me and I laid on the bed.

"Yes. I went to the great store and I bought some of the maternity clothes we talked about. Look at this one." Lisa put down the computer she was using to go further out for me to see the night gown she was wearing. It was blue with butterfly patterns.

"Aww. My cutie Lili. I want to hug you so bad." I squealed. She came back to her seat with a wide smile.

"You really think I look cute Jerry?" I could see her blushing through the camera, which made me smile. I like seeing her feel good about herself.

"I know you do."
