Jeremiah

Her face was scaring me. Vacation time had come to an end and now we were back at the University. Lisa sat in the chair behind her desk while I sat in front of her. She stuffed her potato salad into her mouth and a wave of déjà vu hit me. Why is it always at her desk? I hope it's not the same thing as last time

"Lili?" I called out her name. Her eyes moved away from the wall behind me to my face, making eye contact with me. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

"What could be wrong?" She replied. 'Okay. Something's definitely wrong.'

"Lisa, we promised to be open with each," I reminded her.

"You're right." She glanced away for a moment

"I know," I said cheekily.

"Don't push it." Lisa pointed her fork at me and I immediately backed away.

"Sorry," I said sheepishly. Lisa sighed while putting down her fork.

"Well, it's not that I don't trust you, but that D-named girl just throws me off sometimes."

"But I already told you we're just friends." She stayed silent. "Do you want me to just stop talking to her, Lisa?" Yep, I said her trigger word, but I just wanted to make my point clear.

"I wasn't asking you to do that," she denied.

"Then why bring it up," I retorted, annoyed.

"Because you asked me. I don't understand why you're getting so upset," Lisa raised her voice an octave higher.

"I asked you because you won't stop huffing and puffing." We were both standing at this point, Lisa with her right hand protectively hugging her belly.

"Huffing and puffing? Jeremiah, I literally just confided in you because I thought you could help me. If I knew this would happen, I wouldn't have said anything."

"Well, it's tiring Lisa. I can't help you all the time when you get insecure and jealous. I have my own problems too. You don't hear me complaining all the time." The air stilled. It was at this moment I knew I- Never mind.

"Get out of my room Jeremiah  Kim," Lisa said as tears ran out of her eyes. She sat down and placed her face in her hands.

"Li-" She held out her hand to stop me.

"Please," she said before I grabbed my things and walked to the door. I looked back at her one last time then opened the door and left. I leaned against the wall outside.

"Low blow Jeremiah, low blow." I pushed myself off the wall then went to the room where I'm supposed to get class in the next thirty minutes and pulled out my notes. I had loss my appetite so might as well get some work in.

Third Person POV

The day passed by the two and before they knew it, the last class was over. As Lisa walked to the staff room, she spotted Jeremiah saying something to Donna in the corner. When the young man looked up, she angrily glared at him before marching in the room to get her things. While she placed her things in her bag, Jafhia approached her in concern.

"Hey. Are you alright?" She asked.

"Not right now, Jafhia." She slung her bag on her shoulder and walked out.

"What did you do Jeremiah?" Jafhia shook her head with a sigh before going back to what she was doing.

Lisa headed straight out of the building and into her car, which she brought today since she was feeling lazy. As she drove off to her house, she couldn't help but think over what had happened earlier that day. Things could've gone better and she didn't know who she was more angry at; herself or Jeremiah. After parking her car, Lisa got out of her vehicle, with difficulty, and went inside her house.

"Just me and you today, baby. Will you keep Mommy company tonight?" She said quietly while rubbing her growing bump in the living room.

As the day progressed and the moon and stars glowed through the night, the couple could be seen in their separate beds and houses. Lisa laid on the right and Jeremiah on the left, both knowing the other liked to occupy the opposite side. It was hard for them to sleep that night but after saying a prayer for each other, they eventually dozed off.

.......

"Congratulations, Ms. Manoban," Donna approached the pregnant woman after being the last one left in the classroom. She was in the woman's class this term and Lisa wasn't sure how she felt about it.

"Thank you," she replied with a tight lipped smile. The verbal fight she had with Jeremiah yesterday was still fresh in her mind and with the "cause" of their argument right in front of her, it was getting hard to hold back her tears.

"So, I don't mean to be personal, but I heard what happened between you and Jeremiah." The teacher looked at the young woman in shock.

"He told you, didn't he?" When the girl nodded, Lisa sighed.

"I just wanted to tell you that I don't like him that way and he certainly doesn't like me either. He told me what happened and that he doesn't think we should talk to each other unless it's directly school related. And that he can't stand talking to me knowing you're not comfortable. He's a great guy so trust me, Ms. Manoban, he's not planning to go anywhere soon." Lisa wiped her eyes as tears continuously flowed.

"I know. He's just so great that I feel like I'm not worthy to stand next to him sometimes."

"You should talk to him," Donna suggested.

"I don't know how. I'm so embarrassed."

"I'm embarrassed, Lili, for the way I spoke to you." Jeremiah entered through the door, and without their knowledge, the young woman left.

"Oh, Jerry." Lisa got up and threw her arms around his neck, her bump between them.

"Lili, I'm sorry for what I said. It wasn't right. Will you forgive me for hurting you Lili?I"

"I do, Jerry. And forgive me for always being so jealous and insecure. I really am working on it cause I know that you love me. And I get where you were coming from when you told me that you have other things on your plate."

"It's alright. I understand that you tell me about your problems because you feel comfortable enough to. If I won't be of help to you, then who will? I want to be your husband one day and if I truly want that then I have to treat you right from now."

"I missed you," she said, her face growing red from a blush. His words always made her heart flutter.

"I missed you too," he replied, his arms firmly wrapped around her waist. He loved how soft she was, on the inside and out. "And I love you."

"I love you too. So we're still getting married?"

"Yes, Lili. We're still getting married." He leaned down and placed a deep kiss on her lips leaving the woman speechless.

"November 14," she breathlessly whispered out.

"What?"

"November 14. That's when I want our wedding to be. I think it guves us enough time to get the planning done without everything feeling too rushed. You know? Or does it sound too soon? Do you think I'm rushing Jerry?" Lisa rambled.

Honestly, Jeremiah's heart was racing. Everything was moving so fast, however, he wanted to take this step with the woman he loves. He could never understand how people would say they are not ready for a life long commitment, marriage, while also having another life long commitment, a child. It was just confusing. The twins may not be biologically his, but they were his nevertheless and he would want to be in their lives if, God forbid, him and Lisa were to separate.

"November 14 it is then."
